Fear of having to serve the rest of her two to fourteen-year term for violating the narcotic laws caused Mrs. Lucille Francis Klein, 35, of 3213 N. Illinois St., to attempt suicide in the city prison Tuesday afternoon by slashing her wrists with a piece of glass. Her condition was reported fair at city hospital. She was released from the Indiana State woman’s prison less than a month ago, after serving twenty-six months. She was admitted to the Theodora Home for Girls. Monday she went to visit a friend, alleged to be a dope addict. A relative, notified by the superintendent of the home, followed her and finally persuaded her to come home with him. After riding a few minutes, she jumped out of the car, landing on the pavement and suffering body bruises. She then was held at city prison. NEWS OF BUILDING IN INDIANAPOLIS
ROOF SAFETY IS OFFERED
“Buy roof dependability and don’t gamble on unknown roofing” is the trade slogan in the roofing department of the Vonnegut Hardware Company, 120 E. Washington St., dealers In dependable hardware. s The Vonnegut Hardware Company handles the Neponset Twin shingles, manufactured by Bird Sc Son, a concern which has a history of 132 years, and has been making shingles for thirty-five years. The Vonnegut Hardware Company has handled Bird shingles nearly that long. These shingles offer protection from flying sparks and embers. They are saturated and double-coated with specially prepared asphaK which is the most effective waterproofing material known to man. The slate used in the manufacture of Bird shingles is crushed before It is embedded in the asphalt So in Bird shingles, slate protection and beauty are assured. Safety is assured any house roofed with Bird shingles. Home owners also are assured roof beauty. Bird’s Super-Twin shingles give an appearance of massiveness, rugged, sturdy products. They have four or five-inch cut-out, making them particularly adaptable for rerooflng purposes. They can be laid either four or five inches to the weather. Super-Twins, Neponset and American Twins come in three colors, Lincoln green, Venetian red or blueblack. T.iey also come in art blend which is a combination color. Economy is another factor In Bird shingles, enabling one to save materially in labor in laying them. They are known as a "one-man, one-hand shingle” and use less nails than the average roofing on the market. y
STUCCO FINISH LASTSLONGEST The extensive use of California stucco handled by ths California Stucco Products Company, 1441 8. Harding St., Is due primarily to the long service it gives. In San Francisco the California palace of the Legion of Honor is built of California stucco, giving a wonderful reproduction of handcarved stone. In this and other structures California stucco has produced the appearance of expensive stone with greater permanence in many instancs, at the . same time effecting a substantial saving. An old cemetery wall of concrete, which was accidentally discovered and which had withstood forty years of destructive sea moisture, brought about the discovery of the California stucco process. The versatility of California stucco for building purposes is amazing. The -recreation of the California Palace of Legion of Honor as it stands In Paris today was made possible by the ease with which the stucco can be used. California stucco provides a watertight concrete material. Concrete must be made uniform and workable so that It reaches every comer of the forms and flows around steel without pockets or bridges. Hydrated lime fills voids, making the concrete watertight throughout.

INSURANCE ON TITLESNEEDED Title insurance has the effect of helping the liquidity of realty investments, says J. E. Morrison, sales and advertising director of the Union Title Company’s title insurance department. Suppose, for example, a broker in New York is offered a loan secured by Indianapolis real estate. If the title were covered by the guaranty of a title company, then the question of title would be instantly dismissed and the sale of the mortgage coulJ. proceed at once on the basis of valuation and rate alone. Large dealers in mortgages today are fully aware of the economy effected and prestige attained through title insurance. They are making general use of it all over the United States. Real estate always will be the standard of investment throughout the world. There never will be any more or less real estate than there is at present. Values will steadily rise, and responsibilities involved in realty transfers will become greater as time goes on. It is natural to assume, then, that insurance eventually will be applied to all titles, for up to the present time no system of evidencing title has ever been evolved equal to title insurance. It expedites conveyance, reduces

PREPARE FOB WINTER NOW Home-owner’s failure to have all tin work inspected and repainted may result in serious property damage before spring, according to Homer Selch, tinner and furnace dealer, 844 Virginia Ave. Selch has been busy throughout the summer with sheet metal and furnace work. Tinwork that Is not painted up may result In rested out pipes and leaks of gutters may mean damage to walls and ceilings. "Before the chilly winter sets in all tinwork should be examined to see whether the metal is exposed to the weather,” said Selch. “It is poor economy to leave metal work rot out when a coat of paint might save it for years to come. Os course, copper will last much longer than sheet metal, yet If Iron Is carefully painted and rusted parts are replaced where needed, gutters and downspouts will last much longer. “We have been busy installing furnaces. We handle the Jewel furnace, one of the really high-grade furnaces on the market. It has proved especially attractive to builders who desire to Install a dependable, economical furnace. We have! installed an increased number or Jewel furnaces this year and I believe that before the fall Is over that we will have established a record.” For thirteen years Selch has handled this furnace. He carries a large stock of parts for repair work on this and other makes of furnaces. Incense or scented paper burned in the house will keep it free from midges and mosquitos.
