1,500 TO TAKE PAGEANT PARTS AT CENTENNIAL Delaware County Will Gelebrate at Muncie Sept. 27 to 30. Up Time* Special MUNCIE, Ind., Sep?. 19.—Delaware County will celebrate its 100th birthday on Sept. 27, 28 and 29, with a Mammoth Centennial celebration here, sponsored by the Delaware County Historical Society. One of the features will be an industrial, educational and agricultural parade to be held on the second afternoon of the celebration. Every school and township in the county and all industrial concerns of the county will participate. There will be at least 200 parade floats in the industrial division alone. The entire procession will be approximately three miles long with sijj bands. . The feature of the centennial will be a mammoth historical pageant spectacle that \vill be presented every evening at the fairgrounds in front of the grand stand. This pageant will be in sixteen different episodes giving the history of the county since its inception in 1927. There will be a number of spectacular episodes and ballets. Beautiful costumes, massive scenic sets and novel lighting effects will be employed. Fifteen hundred Delaware County residents will be in the cast. A popularity contest is being held in conjunction with the pageant to select, by popular vote, the character of “Miss Delaware,” who will be Queen of the pageant. This campaign has been under way for the past three weeks and runs until Tuesday. Seventy-two Delaware County young women are entered. NAMED UNION DELEGATE Tostal Clerks’ President to Attend A. F. of L. Convention. Frank Willis, president of the Indanapolis local, National Federation of Postofflce Clerks, will leave on Friday to attend the American Federation of Labor national convention as a delegate. Willis Sunday appointed a committee to arrange for local participation in the sixteenth biennial clerks convention in New York in. 1929. Committee members, are A. W. Leary, Albert Greatbatch, K. L. MAN GUILTY, WIFE SET FREE IN UNUSUAL CASE Williamsport Couple Accused of Obstructing Law’s Process. Up Times Special . Williamsport, ind., sept. 19. —Trial of an unusual case here has resulted in acquittal of his wife, Belle, on charges of obstructing the legal process of law. Charges were filed after Sheriff Cole served a summons in a case for appointment o? a guardian for Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Evans, who lives at the Wilson home. The sheriff found the front door of the home closed and window shades drawn, so he read the summons while
standing on the porch, the Wilsons, he said, refining him admittance. As the sheriff was prosecuting witness in the case, he was, for the time being, not in office, and Coroner Van S. Hamilton became sheriff for the duration of the trial. Wilson’s attorneys Indicate they will take an appeal, in an effort to avoid payment of the SIOO fine imposed on their client. Man Drowns at Picnic Up Times Special MT. VERNON, Ind., Sept. 19. Charles Ashworth, 22, of this city was drowned while swimming in the Wabash river seven miles west of here. Ashworth was attending a picnic of Battery E, Indiana National guard, of which he was a member.

CITY HOST TO RETAILBUYERS Visitors Spent $300,000 Here Last Year. Indianapolis today was host to visiting buyers from retail stores in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan attending the sixth annual Indianapolis Buyers’ week, which will close Thursday. Several hundred buyers had registered by noon today. Registration will continue throughout the week } Last year 1,200 buyers visited the' city and purchased goods valued at $300,000 from the eleven participating firms.
