LAW OFFICERS WILL ASSEMBLE Gilliom’s Parley Invitations • Are Accepted. Prosecutors throughout the State ' are pouring letters of acceptance into the office of Attorney General Arthur L. Gilliom for the law enforcement conference called by him for Sept. 24. In most instances they report that the county sheriff and chiefs of police of the leading towns and cities of the county also will attend. Federal cooperation, has been' pledged. United States District Attorney Albert J. Ward and George Winkler, chief district prohibition enforcement officer, will speak. A considerable part of the time will be devoted to outlining a definite program for prohibition enforcement and untangling the difficulties arising from the recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding issuance of search warrants on belief. The court ruled that knowledge must be had before the warrant can be issued and definite information must be given the officer in charge of issuance. Letters of acceptance have been received from prosecutors at Lebanon, Vincennes, Logansport, Kokomo, Greensburg, Noblesville, Rushville, Richmond, Huntington. Lawrenceburg and Greenfield.

Vernon Clark, 22, of 523 Meredith Ave., was taken to city hospital today with a possible fractured skull after lie was struck by a truck driven by John Gerber, 42 W. Eleventh St., at Seventeenth St and Boulevard PI. Police said the youth ran In front of the truck. Mrs. Theresa Valentine, 65, Negro, 2701 N. Oxford St., was taken to city hospital today with severe bruises received when the stearing wheel of an auto driven by Üben Thompson, 17, Negro, 2735 Oxford St., locked on the National Road east of the city today and crashed into the ditch. City Controller Claude F. Johnson today asked Police Chief Claude M. Worley to order a drive on unlicensed dogs. He estimated there are several hundred unlicensed in the city. ./Wallace Weatherholt today assumed his duties as State securities commissioner, succeeding David Jennings, who resigned to become vice praident of the Continental National Bank. Capt. H. Weir Cook, United States Air Service officer, assigned to the Indiana National Guard, will talk on fliers and long flights at the Service Club luncheon Monday at the Lincoln. Indiana Central College freshmen and sophomores were to stage their annual tug of war near the University Heights college buildings at ,6:15 today. This exclhded private owners of planes, manufacturers and racers. The average passenger rate is ' about 13 cents a mile. Air mail contractors flew 1,399,720 miles, carried 320,212 pounds of mail and 774 passengers. PENNSY BALLOT BOXESSOUGHT Petition to Enable Entire Recount Filed. By United Preaa PITTSBURGH, Pa., Sept. 16.—A petition asking that the ballot boxes of all western Pennsylvania counties except Allegeheny be impounded to enable a recount of the votes in the Vare-Wilson senatorial election was filed in United States District Court today. Judge R. M. Gibson took the petition un#r advisement. The Allegheny County ballots already have been impounded. The petition was presented by Carlos Berguido Jr. of Philadelphia, attorney for Senator-Elect William S. Vare. He was joined by David Walter Stein, counsel for William B. Wilson, Democrat, who is contesting Vare’s election. NEGROES ALTER STORY; HELD FOR PERJURY Scrap Forgotten, but Fair Gets Into New Scrape. When William Gibbs, 29, of 313 Toledo St., and Alice Jackson, 25, of 331 Toledo St., both Negroes, were arrested Aug. 13 they said they had been whacking each other with clubs, acceding to police. But when they appeared before Special Municipal Judge William Faust Thursday afternoon they insisted they had not been fighting and had no idea why they had been arrested. * So Judge Faust ordered them held on perjury charges. They took a change of venue to Municipal Judge Paul Wetter and he held them to the county grand jury today. Meanwhile their lawyer, Lawrence Shaw, asks, “How can they have' committed perjury when they didn’t swear they were fighting? All they did was indulge in a little conversation with police.” SIX JUNIOR Hl-Y CLUBS TO BE FORMED IN CITY Group of College Students to Get , Organization Instructions. Y. M. C. Foley, attorney, addressed the open forum luncheon of the Chamber of Commerce Friday noon on “Civic Responsibility.” “Fewclothes” Held In Liquor Case Sergeant John Eisenhut and squad charged Alex Grigler, alias “Fewclothes,”. 2165 Kenwood Ave., broke a bottle of white mule on the rock when they approached him in the rear of 2163 Kenwood Ave., a vacant house. When they searched Grigler they found keys to the vacant house and Inside found a gallon of alcohol, empty cans and bottles, and a rifle. Grigler was charged with blind tiger operation. GIRL FALLS FROM AUTO Alleged Drunken Driver Turned Car Around Too Fast. Frank Mitchell, 27, of 1711 W. Vermont St., turned his auto around at Senate Ave. and Washington St. at a high rate of speed and Hazel Lynn, 22, of 1615 Spruce St., tumbled out into the street, according to police. Police charged Mitchell with reckless driving, intoxication and driving while intoxicated. The girl’s bruises were treated at city hospital and she was charged with vagrancy. OPERATE NEW RAILROAD 63-Mile Van Sweringen Line Links C. & 0., Hocking Valley.' YOUTH MISSING FROMDE PAUW Aunt Thinks Murdoch Heat Victim, Wandering. * Indianapolis police have been asked to aid in the search for Pete Murdoch, 18, De Pauw University student, who has been missing from his fraternity house at Greencastle, Ind., since Tuesday. University classes were dismissed Thursday and the student body and R. O. T. G. unit searched surrounding country for the missing student. Murdoch may be suffering from the heat and wandering about the streets of Indianapolis or the roads from Greencastle, his aunt, Mrs. James A. Murdoch, 924 N. Rural St., believes. Last year, according to Mrs. Murdock, the boy suffered a stroke and was compelled to leave school. Murdoch was born in Indianapolis. His parents, now dead, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Murdoch, lived on Washington Blvd. Since his parents’ death he has been living with an aunt at Ft. Branch. Ind. When he left his fraternity house room Tuesday night, wearing a light gray suit, he left behind his pocketbook and check book. The boy weighed about 145 pounds, was about 5 feet 11 inch as in height and had dark, wavy hair.
