NEW DRIVE ON > WETS PLANNED BY ORYjJHIEFS National Leaders in Ohio Parley to Push Campaign in Congress. By United Press WESTERVILLE, Ohio, Sept. 13. National leaders of the Anti-Saloon League of America began conferences here today to effect changes in policies and personnel, in anticipation of a fresh attack by wet forces in the December congress as an aftermath of the death of Wayne B. Wheeler, general counsel. Dr. P. Scott Mcßride, general superintendent of the league, will continue to have direction of the legfixative activities of the organization. He was consulting with other prominent dry advocates on new measures to be sought in the coming congress to tighten prohibition enforcement. Disappoint Wets “The wets will be sadly disappointed,” he said today, “if they believe that the absence of Wayne B. Wheeler from Washington will permit them to come back in Congress, or in the courts.” Mcßride explained Wheeler and his organization had “achieved j>erpiafltent rather than merely temporary results, and that “Wheeler developed an organization that will continue to function effectively.” Has Been Active "The dry strength in Congress,” Mcßride added, “is an expression of the prohibition sentiment in the districts from which the Congressmen come and the Anti-Saloon League will see to it that this sentiment continues to receive a full and fair expression in Congress.” Mcßride won fame in prohibition circles by forcing strong enforcement acts while superintendent of the league in Illinois. With Wheeler’s health failing rapidly he took an active hand in work during the last Congress. BOOZE CASES PROBED Federal Grand Jury Investigates 150 Alleged Law Violations. The Federal grand jury today began investigation of some 150 liquor law violations. The jury heard postal law violation cases Monday.
