WAVE OF BARN FIRES PROMPTS PROBEACTION Randolph County Sheriff Advance Incendiary Theory. By United Press WINCHESTER, Ind., Sept, 9. Burning of three barns on Randolph County farms in less than a week has prompted an investigation by Sheriff U. G. Daly on the theory that a firebug is responsible. One clew being probed is a report by two young men that they gave unsuccessful chase in an auto to another machine they noticed being driven rapidly away from the Frank Smock farm north of Lynn, where a barn was burned. Hay and grain stored in the barn was destroyed in addition to the building. Other losers by Are are Fred Jackson and William Brown. The blazes have caused an aggregate loss of several thousand dollars. George Coogan, deputy State lire marshal, and George Strahan, Winchester lire chief, have made preliminary investigations of the Are at the Smock farm. PLAN FIGHT ON BORER University of Illinois to Establish Laboratory. By United Press Alarmed by reports from Indiana, where 125 townships in the northern end of the State are said to be infected by the corn-borer, the University of Illinois will establish a corn-borer laboratory here, Chief Entomologist W.
