MOVIES HELP FLOOD REGION Industry Raises $417,212 for Sufferers. By United Press NEW YORK, Sept. 7.—The motion picture industry raised $417,212.12 for Mississippi Valley flood sufferers, according to statistics issued today by Will H. Hays, president of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America. This money was contributed directly to the lopal chapters of the American Red Cross by the theaters that gave benefit performances. For these benefit performances distributing companies contributed film with rental value totaling $44,593.46. In addition, distributing companies in the devastated areas contributed to the Knights of Columbus and Y. M C. A., film for 122 shows given for the refugees in emergency camps. Los Angeles, home of the movie industry, led the contributions with $54, £73. 84. Members of the Association of Motion Picture Producers there raised and contributed $33,112. The remainder was raised through a benefit in the Hollywood Bowl, in which motion picture stars participated, and through a benefit at the Metropolitan theater. Arrested at Funeral By Times Special RUSHVILLE, Ind., Sept. 7. Herbert Jackson, fugitive for several weeks following a charge of issuing a fraudulent check, is in jail here awaiting trial following arrest at Zion’s Chapel, Madison County, where he was attending the funeral of his father, Sam Jackson.

Municipal ownership is all right with Buster, property of Austin, Minn. Recently when a drive on dogs was in progress the firemen of Engine Company No. 1 gave the city council a bill of sale for Buster, and a resolution of the city fathers made the adoption-of their mascot legal. By Times Special of the Morton Rifles, ThirtyFourth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, famed in Civil War history, will hold their ‘ forty-fifth annual reunion here Thursday. “Those boys of the Thirty-Fourth are the greatest fighters 1 have ever seen. They can certainly stand their ground,” was the praise bestowed upon the regiment by Gen. U. S. Grant to Gen. Lew Wallace.
