other musicians wil be: Genia Zielinka, coloratura sporano; Devorn Nadworney, contralto: Judson House and Judson Lawrie, tenors; Theodore Webb, baritone, and Jack Oakley, basso. The famed “Sextet from Lucia” will be sung by a group of grand opera soloists and instrumental numbers include "Dance of the Hours” and “Moment Musicale.” Twenty-seven broadcasters will transmit this WEAF attraction. Radio in general and WMAQ of the Chicago Daily News in particular are to be thanked for the salvation of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In nine days this-station raised $30,000, a sum sufficient to end the deadlock over increased pay which for a time made the dissolution of the famous orchestra seem certain. The Daily News, Mrs. Edith Rockfeller McCormack and Louis Eckstein, producer of summer opera at Ravinia, each made contributions of $5,000. The other half was raised through general subscriptions, ranging from $1 up to $3,000. “I believe that the thirty-seventh year of the orchestra, which is ahead, will surpass all others in brilliancy,” predicted Frederick Stock, director, when informed that the entire sum had been received.
