COURTHOUSE IS BLASTTARGET Explosion Rocks Buildings in Downtown Brooklyn. By United Press BROOKLYN, N. Y., Sept. s.—An explosion today in the areaway between the Supreme Court Bldg, and the Hall of Records in the heart of the downtown section here broke about SSOO worth of windows and ripped a hole in the concrete pavement. Three persons narrowly escaped injury. Police found bits of clockwork in the debris in the areaway, evidence that a bomb had been set off. It was a powerful bomb, police said, probably filled with TNT. A crowd of several thousand was attracted to the scene within a few minutes. Police reserves from four stations were called out to keep them back. All detectives from police headquarters in Brooklyn were dispatched to the scene. The bomb squad from Manhattan and Are department officials also were on hand. The explosion tore a hole in the concrete pavement about two feet across and nine or ten inches deep. The two buildings are in the same block with the new fifteen-story municipal building.
