AVIATORS FACE PERILOUS FEAT Globe Fliers Must Pick Tiny Speck in Sea to Land. By United Prei WASHINGTON, Sept. 2. The most dlfflicult aviation feat ever attempted faces the two round-the-world fliers, Schlee and Brock, in their flight across the Pacific from Toklo via Midway Islands and Hawaiian Islands to San Francisco, according to a survey by Naval experts. Acting Secretary of Navy Warner advised against this 2,500-mile Tokio-Midway hop unless radio navigation is used. According to reports, the aviators are planning to use a radio compass, picking up the radio station on Midway Islands to guide them. Even with radio aid, Warner said, perfect navigation will be necessary to "find” the tiny isles, especially after a 2,500-mile flight. Compared with this feat, finding the Hawaiian Islands from San Francisco, considered quite a navigation accomplishment, is easy. The aviators will be driving for a clump of coral reef and sand, about a mile and a half long. They plan to land on Sand Island. Whereas aviators going to the Hawaiian Islands have a series of high peaks a slandmarks, the Midway Islands rise only forty-tiiree feet above the sea. Difficult as it will be to find the tiny spot, this is the only way the trip can be made by a land plane, as there are no landing fields on Wake Island, Guam or any of the South Sea Islands., STRAWN NAMED NEW BAR HEAD First President to Be Chosen Without Opposition. PATRICK O’DONNELL, NOTED LAWYER, DIES Prominent Chicago Man Succumbs During Visit in Indiana. By United Press LOGANSPORT, Ind., Sept. 2. Patrick O'Donnell, celebrated Chicago attorney and foe of the KuKluk Klan, ied shortly before noon today at Burrows, ten miles from here. O’Donnell succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage at the home of Michael Cutrien; a cousin, where he was taken ill suddenly Tuesday while on a vacation. His wife and seven children were at the bedside when death came. Described as second only to Clarence Darrow in abilities as a criminal lawyer in Chicago, O’Donnell had appeared in many notable trials. He acted for the Genna brothers of Chicago in their trial on charges of murder growing out of a bootleg feud. O’Donnell first attained prominence a score of years ago by his defense of Chinese in early Tong wars. He defended Harold Croarkin, scion of wealthy parents, who was tried for the murder of 6-year-old Walter Schmit. By United Pres* ERIE, Pa., Sept. 2.—Two messengers for the Erie County Electric Company were held up by three robbers early today and robbed of the $15,000 pay roll they were carrying. The robbery occurred on East Twelfth St. The thugs made their escape in a Buick touring car, bearing an Illinois license plate. TRACE ACQUEDUCT PLOT By United Press LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2.—Through serial numbers on boxes containing huge quantities of explosives, authorities hoped today to trace a new plot to blow up the Los Angeles aqueduct in Inyo County. The explosives, found cached in an isolated cabin at the foot of the Alabama Hills, near Lone Pine Creek, included three fifty-pound boxes of nitroglycerine, 100 pounds of fulminate of mercury and 750 feet of waterproof fuse.
