aters were reopened. The exhibitors insisted on continuing the lockout until the controversy is settled. Ask Nation-Wide Strike A sympathy strike such as that under discussion would involve not only the moving picture operators, but allied unions of stage hands and musicians. Hundreds of theaters would be affected and thousands thrown out of work. The only hope of averting ait appeal to national union officials for the general strike was seen in an-
nouncement that Ben C. Marshman and Fred Knightly, Department of Labor conciliators who failed in their efforts Thursday, would make another attempt to secure an agreer ment. If a strike were called, It would have to be sanctioned by William Canavan, New York, head of the operators’ and stage hands' unions, and Joseph N. Weber, head of the American Federation of Musicians. Theater Unions Powerful Unless the conciliators succeed in securing 9 settlement, the situation threatened today to become one of the most serious in the history of organized labor. The theatrical unions, especially in large cities, are among the most powerful In existence. They have gained man concessions for their members and theater owners assort they have been forced to employ many more men than are needed to carry on their business. If the workers and employers settle down to a finish fight, any number of devices may be used by each side to force the other to yield.

a bulletin of tne Indiana State Medical Association., “Such warning seems unnecessary to most people in this day and age, with modern medical spience -. its high stand. Since 1911 typhoid vaccination has been compulsory in the United States Army, and as a result, typhoid has been practically eliminated.”
