LONDON FLIGHT IS STOPPED BY FOGSAND RAIN Aviators Forced to Return After Taking Off From Ontario Field. * LONDON^Ontario, Aug. 29.—The Sir John Garling, London to London flight plane, returned here before noon today, after running into dense fog and heavy rain over Lake Ontario. Capt. Terry Tully and Lieut. James Medcalf had hopped off from here at 6 o’clock on an attempt to fly to London, England, without a stop. The plane is a Stinson-Detroiter, , similar to one in which the SchleeBrock around the world flight is being made. It has a Wright Whirlwind motor of 225 horsepower and a maximum speed of 128 miles an hour. The plane carried 450 gallons of gasoline. The projected course of the flight leads from London, Ont., over Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and then over a route closely following the “Lindbergh trail” to Croydon airdrome, near London. i Detroit’s Eyes on Sky By United Prcas DETROIT, Aug. 29—Aviation t monopolized the interest of Detroit today. In addition to rejoicing over the success of the Pride of Detroit in spanning the Atlantic, the motor city watched preparations for four more long-distance flights, one of which was about to start. Across the Detroit River at Windsor the Royal Windsor monoplane was poised for a non-stop flight to Windsor, England. Her pilot, C. A. “Duke” Schiller, and navigator, Philip S. Wood, awaited only favorable weather reports, and tentatively planned to “take the gun” at 1 p. m. Farther east, at London, Ontario, the Sir John Carling took off at_ 5:50 a. m. for London, England, Capt. Terry Tully and Lieut. James Metcalf aboard. At Northville, Mich., Ruth Elder, charming Alabama aviatrix, and her navigator, George W. Haldeman of Florida, inspected Miss Elder’s new Stinson-Detroiter monoplane, with which they will attempt next month to duplicate Lindbergh’s flight to Paris. To the south, at Wyandotte, Mich., Capt. Frederick A. Giles, English pilot, tinkered with his Hess biplane, and hoped to hop off later this week on a one-man flight to Welligton, New Zealand, involving one trans-oceanic span of approximately 4,700 miles.

By Vnitrd Prrts NEW YORK, Aug. 29 —Acting District Attorney Hastings today asked an indictment of first degree murder against Policeman Daniel J. Graham Jr., charged with murder of Judson Hewitt Pratt, a paymaster, and the theft of the $4,700 pay roll. Pratt was shot and killed Saturday. Graham had been assigned to guard Pratt when he made his pay roll deliveries for the last three weeks. Last Monday he informed headquarters that he had a sore throat and did not report for duty. Graham denied the crime and said he had inherited $5,000 from an aunt A in Albany.
