Seven were school grounds that must be put into shape for school opening, and the remainder were places where the number of children has dropped and can be taken care of by other grounds near by. Mrs. Lillian Neese, 934 S. Delaware St., was treated at the city hospital Thursday night for leg injuries received when she ran from her home into the street to board a street car and was struck by a truck driven by William McKee, 413 N. Davidson St. He was exonerated. Philip Zoercher, State tax board member, will speak before the Indianapolis Scientech Club Monday at the Chamber of Commerce. Zoercher will discuss the 1919, 1(120 and 1921 horizontal tax refund. “Our Gold P’nted Democracy” will be the subject of an address by Myron G. Phillips, Wabash College professor, before Indianapolis Rotarians at their luncheon Tuesday noon at the Claypool. Police sought anew kind of "movie fan” today when Frank Shields, 1545 N. Meridian St., reported that a motion picture camera valued at $l5O and a color photography camera valued at $350 were stolen from his automobile parked in front of his home. GREETS'DRY REFUGEES Mayor Walker Speaks to Americans in Berlin. By United Press BERLIN, Aug. 26.—‘‘Fellow refugees from the Eighteenth Amendment,” were the words with which Mayor James J. Walker of New York began his address before American residents of Berlin last night. Secretary of State Von Schubert, In behalf of President Von Hindenburg, decorated the mayor with the order of the red cross in recognition of New York’s post-war aid to German children. LEGALITY OF SANITY TESTS BEING TESTED Chicago Gangsters Hope to Defeat Police Chief’s Plan. By United Press

CHICAGO, Aug. 26.—Legality of use of the sanity test as a means of confining Chicago gangsters, was at stake in court today, with Frank and Vincent McErlane, notorious gangsters, attempting to obtain release from the psychopathic hospital on habeas corpus writs. The McErlanes, thus fay, have refused to submit to the mental tests. Preliminary observation resulted in commitment to the psychopathic ward for further examination. Attorneys for thb gangsters said they would defeat Chief of Police Michael Hughes’ plant of making all known "undesirables” submit to sanity examination. STUDENT PARTY IS BACK FROM MEXICO Nine of Group Attacked by Bandits Reach Los Angeles. By United Press LOS ANGELES, Cal., Aug. 26. Nine members of the party of teachers and students of Pomona College who were attacked by Mexican bandits Tuesday while en route to thd border from Mexico City arrived today. AMERICANS MAKING - MACARONI AT HOME Less Imported From Italy Says Commerce Department

Bn United Press WASHINGTON, Aug. 26.—American macaroni eaters are becoming independent of Italy, famous home of macaroni. The Commerce Department disclosed today that annual macaroni imports into this country averaged only 7,000,000 pounds a year for the last few years compared with 120,000,000 pounds annually before the war. In eating macaroni, however, the United States is far behind Italy, per capita consumption being four and one-half pounds a year, compared with about flfty-four pounds a year in Italy.
