BY FREDERICK C. OTHMAN United Press Staff Correspondent (Copyright. 1927, by United Press) DENVER, Colo., Aug. 23.—Evidence that the most ancient man yet discovered in the world lived In what is now the United States in a virtual Garden of Eden 4,000,000 years ago has been uncovered by Dr. Harold J. Cook, celebrated Denver paleontologist. In view of the belief held by Scientists for years that America was devoid of remains of prehistoric man, Dr. Cook’s discoveries are looked upon aj the most important ever made by archeologists in the United States. Some two million years before the ice age enveloped the northern hemisphere in a mantle of continuous snow and ice—and that was 1,250,000 years ago— the northern United States, Canada and Alaska was a veritable paradise, it was shown by fossils uncovered by Dr. Cook and his associates from the Colorado Museum of Natural History in Denver. Palms In Alaska Palm trees grew in Alaska which at thatjtime was not separated from Asia by water vas it is now. The whole area was a riot of luxuriant •tropical plants, a fantasy of strange beasts. There were awe-inspiring mammoths weighing many tons, cats the size of cattle, dogs larger than horses, huge salamanders, the giant rhinoceros, elephants, camels and all manner of tropical birds. One skull was found of a weird beast which had a head four feet long and a brain not larger than two hen’s eggs. Six horns, in pairs projected from the skull.
Man Lived, Prospered Amidst all this tropical profusion man lived and apparently prospered. So certain are scientists that man did live in America at that time that the "first American man’’ recently was named Hesperopithecus Haroldcookii, “the ape man of the West found by Harold Cook.” Dr. Cook’s discovery of evidence and remains of man in the United States was made at Agate Springs, Neb., apparently the center of life in America during the quarternary century. Deep down in a quarry, rods and rods of fossilized prehistoric animal bores were found. Among them, Dr. Cook came upon bone implements obviously fashioned by human hand. The most important discovery, however, was a tooth, the characteristics rs which showed it to be even more 1 uman than that of the pithecanthropus ape man discovered in Java. . , Because of its association with the prehistoric animal bones and with the fossilized tools, scientists believe that the tooth belonged at one time to a man living ages ago, so far back in fact that in comparison to him the American Indians were the veriest of newcomers and Columbus was a mere intruder. Finds Horses Feet It is but a matter of time, Dr. Cook believes, until much more complete remains of the Hesperopithecus Haroldcookii will be found. So far. Dr. Cook said, deposits of prehistoric remains m Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and California have only been scratched.

Particulars of the settlement, made public by attorneys for both sides, divulged Chaplin would pay his wife $625,000 and create a trust lund of $200,000 for his two children, the principal of which is to go to them when the youngest reaches the age of 35. Jlnother Reason c Whp Tiolene Motor Oil lasts Longer!
ORISTS who use Tiolene Motor Oil regu--1 C lariy, "know that it lasts longer—goes farther, safely! But why does it outlast other oils? One reason why Tiolene lubricates longer is that it will withstand greater heat without excessive evaporation, or burning. An oil’s ability to resist heat can be measured before it is used by the “flash and fire’’ test. This test reveals in Tiolene, the wonderful stamina which so distinguishes it in actual use. Oils with lower "flash and fire test, evaporate quickly even in your motor’s crankcase —and are lost through the breather pipe. Enterprise Is being stimulated by lowered rediscount rates, and while factory employment shows a small slump, this, lie said, is offset by an increase in "service employment.” The Dole Hawaiian flight tragedies, Hoover felt, has demonstrated the wisdom of his department’s insistence on supervisory air regulations.
