WOMEN TAKE LEAD AT WORLD DRY CONGRESS W. C. T. U. Sponsors Morning Program Today at Winona Lake. By Timm Special WINONA LAKE, Ind., Aug. 19. Women assumed leadership at this morning’s session of the congress of the World League Again :X Alcoholism following formal opening of the gathering Thursday night. The world’s Woman’s Christian Temperance Union sponsored the morning program. The keynote address, “The Spirit of the World League Against Alcoholism,” was'delivered by Dr. Ernest H. Cherrington, Westerville, Ohio, general secretary of the league. Dr. Robert Hercod, Lasuanne, Switzerland, discussed “The Movement Against Alcoholism in Europe.” The topic of Brynleifur Tobiasson, Iceland, was “Prohibition Self-Determination for all Countries.” Bishop James Cannon [ Jr„ Methodist Episcopal Churcn, South, and chairman of the league executive committee, was also a speaker. Upshaw Speaks Addresses were made at the afternoon session by William D. Upshaw, former Representative in Congress from Georgia; Miss Cora Frances Stoddard, executive secretary of the Scientific Temoerance Federation; Dr, F, H. Otto Melle, Germany, and S. E. Nicholson, secretary Anti-Saloon League of America. A motion picture, “Alcohol and the Human Body,” will be shown tonight under direction of the Rev. R. N. Holsaple, superintendent Anti-Sa-loon League of Michigan. Speakers will be Edward Oliver, London, England; Col. P. H. Callahan, president Louisville Varnish Company, and the Rev. W. W. Peck, educational secretary, Prohibition Federation of Canada. International character of the congress was manifest here Thursday night, at the formal opening. Every continent on the earth was represented by delegates from national temperance organizations. With addresses of welcome by Dr. E. S.
