BIGGER PLANES TO HANDLE AIR TRAFFICKED Increase in Business Already Taxing Equipment of Present Lines. By United Pres* LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16.—Larger airplanes will have to be developed by aeronautical engineers next year to take care of the, rapidly growing business of commercial air transportation companies, according to Harris M. Hanshue, president of the Western Air Express, the world’s first economically successful airline. Instead of a summer slump, Hapshue’s company reports improved air mail volume. Besides, he says, valuable light weight merchandise is being sent through the air by the most progressive merchants and not a plane has departed over a regular run fdr the past several months without carrying at least one passenger. Seek Bigger Planes "With the regular fall an# winder business stimulations,” Hanshue declared, “commercial airways companies, in - the West, at least, will be taxed to the utmost to care for their customers with the equipment now in tT-d. “By tfcr first of the year, I expect the Weste*M Air Express to be in the murkest for the largest air carriers obtainable. We are hopeful of being offered planes incorporating new scientific development which will far exceed present models in performance. We will need something better than what is now the best.” During July 1927 the Western Air Express carried more than 200 per cent more mail than during July 1926. A!* Mall Is Aid Air mail, at present, is the main source of income of air transport companies. These monies represent economic security to the infant industry, Hanshue points out. “Commercial aviation even now is finding its swaddling clothes too tight. It is about to perform its function of demanding peace-time aeronautic progress. It will only be a. few years before the air transport of the nations will have been fully , met, *if development progresses at the present rate—and it will,” Hanshue declared. Births . . PARMER’S LUCK BAD Pigs Stole Milk and Cows Were Tubercular. By United Press KENOSHA, Wis., Aug. 16.—Andrew Pennema, Salem farmer, is wondering if his pigs caught tuberculosis from his cows. When his cows failed to give the proper amount of milk for this time of season, he decided to watch for the thieves. He was in the habit of letting the pigs run loose in the cow pasture. One day while leaning against the fence gazing disgustedly at the cows, Fenema saw three of the young porkers strole up and start stealing the milk. Then just as the milk supply had rose to normal. State agents arrived and upon examining the cattle condemned the cows for tuberculosis. He is now wondering about the pigs.
