G. 0. P. LEADERS AT CAL'S CAMP PREDICTDRAFT' Eight Republican Chieftains Arrive at Same Time to See President. BY PAUL MALLON RAPID CITY, S. D., Aug. 12. A complex situation has been stirred up out here with the arrival of eight Republican leaders from all sections of the country, most of whom believe President Coolidge will be renominated despite his announcement that he does not choose to be a candidate in 1928. Five of these eight indicate he will be drafted. They say that the Republican party will be deadlocked over two or more other candidates and that President Coolidge will be an unanimous compromise. Whether by design or chance, these eight Republican leaders arrived here at the same time. Political observers were led to believe that a movement had been started to draft Coolidge despite his announced disinclination for the office. Favor Recommendation V Senator Fess, Ohio, said he had told the President the party intended to demand his renomination. Representative Hull, Illinois, predicts delegates to the next national convention likely will encounter a spontaneous movement to make (Coolidge the nominee. Gov. John S. Coolidge Goes Fishing Representatives Knutson and Selvig (Reps.), Minnesota, said their State would be divided between Lowden and lloover. Coolidge apparently is amused at the situation he has created.' He planned to spend this week-end fishing, as usual, and his crowded house of guests amused themselves as best they could. The President was interested in reports that Secretary of Labor Davis had been ordered here by airplane for an interview. Rumors said Davis intended to seek a compromise in the Sacco-Vanvetti case by proposing the two so-called radicals be ostracized from the United States. Rumor Is Doubted This proposal was questioned by Assistant Attorney General Donovan and other authorities, who contended Sacco and Vanzetti could ] not be placed under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government until Governor Fuller had granted them executive clemency. Donovan, who is here on wnat he says is a personal visit, declined to comment on the Sacco-Vanzetti case except to say that the Federal Government bad nothing to do with it.
