GUARDSMEN ARE BATTLING HARO AT GAMP KNOX Annual War of Reds and Blues Being Waged Like Real Thing. BY VERNON STEWART Times Staff Correspondent CAMP KNOX, Ky., Aug. 11.—National Guard divisional maneuvers started here today and will continue Friday. This year the Reds will defend the camp while the Blues try to capture it. Headquarters are to be established and all orders are to be issued from the field. Every type of equipment used in actual wardare will be used, including the 155-mm. guns manned by the famous 150th Field Artillery, a part of the Rainbow Division during the war, and the 75-mm. guns manned by the 139th Field Artillery! Airplanes will be used to aid the ground forces and powerful searchlights Will pierce the sky looking for enemy planes. The enemy’s outposts will extend from Hooker Mountain to Tip Top Hill and the blue outposts will extend from Salt River to Kaker’s Rd. The infantry, assisted by machine gun fire went into action about noon and later in the day was to be reinforced by the light and heavy artillery and tanks. The engineers are due to swing in sometime in the afternoon. They are to build and destroy bridges for the infantry and to dig trenches. A pontoon bridge which will be strong enough to transport the heavy guns is to be built across Salt River in twenty minutes. Flares and rockets will light up the ground for the night fighting. The battle will last until early Friday and will be followed by the division review Friday afternoon. This will officially end all activities of the Indiana units and Saturday all units will prepare to leave the camp.

Sias, whose interest is deper than that of many, because it was in an aviation school at Lincoln, Neb., conducted by Sias that Lindbergh was graduated as a licensed pilot with a rating of expert aviator. Sias, former pastor of the Christian Church here, in the city visiting friends, recalled the first parachute leap from a plane’s wings taken by Lindbergh.
