POISON WIDOW VOICES REGRET " E Mrs, Smith Talks in Jail at Liberty. By Times Special LIBERTY, Ind., Aug. 3.—ln the first statement she has made since her arrest last Friday on a charge of poisoning her husband, George Smith, more than a year ago, Mrs. Margaret Smith said to Sheriff Albert Dubois: “I would gladly give my own life to have my husband back.” Eileen, 15-year-old daughter of Mrs. Smith, is still a guest of Sheriff Dubois and family at the jail. She is a close friend of the sheriff’s daughter and is expected to remain with her until a guardian is appointed. PREMIER BALDWIN IS CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY Many Send Congratulations on Sixtieth Anniversary. By United Press LONDON, Aug. 3.—Stanley Baldwin, prime minister of England, was the recipient in Canada today of scores -of messages from England, the Dominions and from many foreign countries, congratulating him upon his sixtieth birthday. It concluded one of the busiest years of his political career, during which the prolonged and financially disastrous coal stoppage of 1926 was brought to a conclusion, and the betting tax, the electricity bill for the consolidation of power stations and extension of the use of electricity in England, and the trades union bill making general strikes illegal, were passed.
