FILIPINOS ME FLOCKING HERE Number in U. S. Has Tripled Since 1920. By United Press WASHINGTON, July 29.—Filipino population in the continental United Stated has practically tripled since the last national census of 1920, and may be quadrupled before the census of 1930, the United Press estimates after inquiry in authoritative American official and Filipino quarters here. The rapid increase has been stimulated to a considerable extent by labor requirements resulting from the restrictions against European labor under the immigration act of 1924. Employment of Filipinos cn vessels of the United States Navf and the influx of many hundred Filipino young men seeking an opportunity for high school and university education while self-support-ing are other noteworthy factors in population growth. The census of 1920 reported 5,603 Filipinos in continental United States, of whom 5,233 were males fend 371 females. As many Filipinos in this country have not maintained a permanent fixed residence, it appears likely that the numbed reported was not the maximum. Paint Kills Cows By Times*special COLUMBUS, Ind., July 29.—Two cows which licked paint from old cans on the farm of Marion Adams died of lead poisoning. County Farm Agent Douglass warns farmers to keep paint away from cows, as they seem to deem it a delicacy.
