Average Stock Prices
Average of twenty industrials Thursday was 174.38, up 1.17. new high. Average of twenty rails was 138.46. off .80. Average of forty bonds was 97.02, up .05. By United Press NEW YORK, July 15.—Despite profit-taking late in the session the majority of issues on the New York Stock Exchange showed gains at the close of the market today. Trading was fairly active part of the time with an upward tendency in progress from the start until late in the day. United States Steel equaled its record high, but lost ground later, while General Motors touched anew record at 207, also declining, but recovering some of the loss before the final gong. Baldwin was an outstanding feature of the industrial section, reaching anew mark at 24914, up %, and holding a considerable amount of the gain. Rails were strong under leadership of Atchison. Specialties like Texas Gulf were bid up sharply. Nothing happened today to interfere with the upswing in seasoned stocks. On the contrary, economic conditions were propitious, and further impressive advances took place among the leaders. Banks called approximately $lO,000,000 to strengthen their positions for the week-end clearing house statement. However, plentiful funds continued available at the official rate of 4 per cent. Some offerings were still available outside at 3% per cent, although loans were for over Sunday. In addition to the stimulus of easy credit, pivotal issues, derived upward impulse frqm business news. Many factors, pointed to quickening activities in anticipation of autumn demand.

In the Cotton Market
NEW YORK, Jul yls.—'The English market was unexepectedly strong this morning on Egyptian buying. The New York response was somewhat Indifferent and prices ranged between 17.90 and 17.98 for October throughout the morning. In the early afternoon as the detailed reports of rainfall began to come in. showing heavy participation In Oklahoma, Arkansas and parts of Texas, a demand sprung up which finally absorbed the offerings at 18 cents for October and the market went on to establish new high price for the year. As showery conditions are still indicated by the weather map. It is not unlikely that further advances will be see nin the contract market. Reports of boll weevil activity are increasing and with the present weather conditions we are Inclined to place more Importance on the news than we did two or three weeks ago. NEW ORLEANS - High. In the Sugar Market
(By Thomson Sc McKinnon) Y ° RK - July 15.—A generally easier tone has pervaded the sugar market. There was pressure from large producing Interests with several fairly large blocks of September and January sold by brokers with Cuban connections. The greatest source of- weakness, however, was the break In London cables, ascribed to weakness of Java. The Irregularity In the American futures market will continue until the bullishness of the supply position is freely recognized. RAW SUGAR PRICE S High. Low. Close. THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES
GRAIN DECLINES FOURTH TIME IN AS MANY DAYS Oats Follows Lead of Wheat in Dropping—Liquidation in Corn. By United Press CHICAGO, July 15.—For the fourth consecutive day grain prices averaged lower on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat closed 1% to 1% lower on weak Liverpool cables. Corn closed 1% to 3% lower in sympathy with wheat and oats were 1% to l l * off. The weaker Liverpool cables were unexpected and due to a change in European weather for the better. There was general selling under this influence. Weather indications in the spring wheat belt came in bearish and rust reports were lacking so the price dropped. Export business was lacking and there was no other bracing influence. Receipts here were forty cars. The cash market was unchanged. More liquidation went on in corn from the opening. Favorable weather and the weakness in wheat were the important bearish factors. Locals pressed the selling side at every opportunity, and late in the session the grain ran into stop loss orders which aided the decline. Receipts were 117 cars. Cash market was 1 cent lower. Oats were featureless and followed the, fluctuations of wheat. The cash market was unchanged. Receipts were thirty-two cars. Provisions went up slightly, late in the session of higher hogs.
