JESSE LAWSON TO QUIT PRISON BY CHRISTMAS Governor Commutes Sentence; May Spend Holiday With Mother. Jesse Lawson, sentenced in Delaware county April 26, 1924, to from fwo to twenty-one years for manslaughter, will be able to spend next Christmas with his invalid mother. Acting on recommendation of the Indiana State reformatory trustees, governor Jackson Thursday commuted Lawson’s minimum sentence to twenty months. In the recommentation the trustees pointed out that such a commutation will permit Lawson to be home with his invalid mother for Christmas. Action for Castle Bell * The Governor also approved recommendation of the trustees for commutation of the sentence of Castle Bell from ten to twenty to three to twenty years. CBOPS MAY CUT VOTE HARVEST Administration Faces Trouble in Corn Belt. By United Press WASHINGTON, July 15.—This socalled summerless year promises trouble for the Administration. Rain and flood in the Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys and drought in the southwest have worked inestimable damage to crops. This abnormal condition will hardly make farmers more tractable in their demands fowrelief. The corn has suffered most. It is expected to be the shortest crop in twenty-six years and some of the Administration’s stanchest support heretofore has come out of the corn belt. Ohio corn on July 1 was only 63 per cent in condition, compared with a ten-year average of 83 per cent; Indiana corn was 56 compared with 82 per cent; Illinois corn, 57 compared with 84 per cent. CASINO REMAINS OPEN Injunction Did Not Forbid Dancing at Day’s Place. A temporary injunction prohibiting sale and drinking of liquor on the premises has been issued against Day’s Casino, dance place on the Shelbyville Rd., instead of an order temporarily closing the place as was reported, according to Joseph B. Day, proprietor. The Casino will be open as usual for dancing on Saturday and Sunday. Hearing on a plea for a permanent injunction against the Casino will be heard in Morgan County Circuit Court, Tuesday. Neighbors alleged the dance ijall was a public nuisance. Day denied
