BISHOP ‘UNDRESS’ South Sea Flappers Ruin Health in White Men’s Clothes. By United Press SAN FRANCISCO, July 13. South Sea Island flappers are wearing more and more clothes—and the
one who most strenuously opposes the new style is Joseph Darnard, Bishop of Samoa and the Union Islands. The natives, he says, are ruining their health by the adoption of white men’s habits. Only the scantiest clothing allows them to remain well, so the women should not wear even the flimsy lingerie of their white sisters. True Dramas of the Heart WHEN a man or a woman has really lived —has faced some great problem of love, marriage, sacrifice, temptation, sorrow that story is worth the telling, purely as a record of human experience. Life paints no false pictures. Its never-ending drama is all the more thrilling because its characters, its events, its eternal conflict, are true. It is such stories that each month make up the contents of True Story Magazine —stories that fire the interest and grip the imagination as mere fiction can never do. NEWS OF BUILDING ACTIVITIES IN INDIANAPOLIS
REN DAVIS CO. KEEPSPLEDGES Keeping faith with customers has been one of the biggest assets of the Ben Davis Lumber Company’s development. , The company has maintained an excellent record for keeping its business promises, according to J. A. Breedlove, secretary-treasurer. “We believe a firm should be as faithful in its promises as any individual, for the integrity of a business firm is one of its greatest assets,” he said. “We have sought at all times to live up to all promises made in matters of quality of our products and Contractors have dealt with us because we have laid unusual emphasis upon our dependability. “Business has been somewhat retarded by the weather conditions of the spring, but we have done a very satisfactory business, all things considered. The demands for lumber and building materials has been fairly steady. Prices have been Arm for the tpost part.” The firm maintains a lumber mill and turns out a large line of building products. It handles practically all lines of lumber and many types of building materials.
FIRM WINS BIG ROOF CONTRACT The General Asbestos and Supply Company. 426 S. Meridian St., will supply the roofing and waterproofing materials for the new Indiana World War Memorial Plaza building, the corner-stone of which was laid July 4. The firm will supply approximately 80,000 pounds of lead for the roofing of the Memorial building and approximately 11,300 square feet of copper sheet metal for the weatherproofing of the concrete base and approaches to the promenade decks of the shrine building. In order to expedite the work of getting out its sheet metal contracts, the General Asbestos and Supply Company has enlarged the sheet metal shop department and anew shop, located on the main floor of its warehouse building, 410-412 S. Meridian St., is being remodeled, giving a working space of twenty by 140 feet for the department. The firm also has the contract for the composition roofing and builtup roofing insulation for the copper-bearing, steel roofdeck of the new Scottish Rite Cathedral of North Meridian St., which is being constructed. Another large contract of the firm Is the reroofing of the Wayne County courthouse at Richmond, which will require six carloads of Ludowici-Celandcn tile and a large amount of copper work on the roof. An out-of-State contract recently obtained by the firm is the roofing of a building in Louisville, which will require 30,000 square feet of John Manville asbestos shingles, 15,000 pounds of copper sheet metal, and 5,000 pounds of galvanized sheet metal.

HOME DESIGN HAS FEMININE TOUCH
I * n • |t? , ' / *gPV9
By NORA KAY There are houses that, like babies, one cannot pass without pausing to admire. The new residence at 5741 N. Pennsylvania St. is such a house. It was built by The Van Kirks, as Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Van Kirk prefer to call their building organization. I but any woman will realize tX once 1 that Mrs. Van Kirk had the greater share in the planning, for the feminine touch is everywhere apparent. The exterior is charming, and, in its picturesque and homelike color and design, suggestive of the attractive interior. A winding walk leads from the street to the arched entrance door opening into a shallow vestibule. At each side of this entrance there are groups of casement windows with leaded glass panes, and ivory shutters trimmed with green complete the ornamental effect of these window groups Buff colored stucco has been used for the exterior walls, the roof is of varicolored fireproof shingles and the south porch, from which French doors open into the living room, is shaded by a gayly colored Arabian awning upheld by four slender iron standards. Attractive Hallway The door opens into a square hallway between the living room and dining room. Instead of having stairs to go up from this hallway, i however, the architect has brought them down on the north side of the living room and turned them at a landing a few steps above the first floor level. By an archtopped door, inset with frosted and colored glass, this landing is con- j nected with steps that lead dowrn to the breakfast room. The breakfast room is between the dining room, on the northwest, and the kitchen, on the northeast, and, like the other rooms through- 1 out the house, with the exception of the kitchen, is attractively papered in panels. For the living room and dinin'g room a flock paper has been used, and its velvety surface gives the effect of tapestry panelling. In

the breakfast room the paper is a Japanese scenic pattern, in which black and gold predominates. The woodwork throughout is stippled in antique ivory. Kitchen Cosy and Handy The kitchen, on the north, is not large, but as complete and convenient as any housewife could desire. The wrought iron railing that forms the stair balustrade, also surrounds the stair on the second floor. From the square hallway here three bedrooms open. At the northwest is the rose and gray room, with a deep windowed closet filling the space below the south slope of the roof. On the south, above the living room, is the master bedroom, with three capacious closets filling the space below the gabled roof. On the northeast is a third bedroom, and at the back of the hall a French door opens on to a deck porch that may be used for airing bedding or for passing the hunny hours of a summer afternoon in secluded coolness. The bathroom, between the two north bedrooms, is finished in black and white tile, with all of the built-in features that modern plumbing offers.

LOANS INDICATE STEADYGROWTH Demand for loans on homes in Indianapolis continues strong and can be taken as an index of steady prosperity of the city, according to Charles R. Yoke, president of Fletcher Avenue Savings and Loan Association, 10 E. Market St. The association has been active in financing a number of new homes, Yoke reported, although early spring weather conditions somewhat handicapped building activities. “Our assets have shown a steady and satisfactory increase,” he said. "We now have approximately $12,600,000 in assets as a result of careful handling of our business affairs. We have had a growth as constant as the years, and we have paid dividends of six per cent on savings for thirty-six years. Our list of depositors has grown each year. Yoke gives each business transaction his personal consideration. The company is located conveniently in the “Wall Street of Indianapolis." just off the Circle. One of the rules of the company is to give each customer the most courteous treatment at all times. Competent employes are ready to give any information to persons interested in making deposits or securing various loans. “Lily rash” is an eruption of the skin caused by contact with the juice from the stems of flowers, chiefly narcissi, hyacinths, daffodils and tulips.
