ABANDON PLAN FOB WIDENING MERIDIAN ST. Board to Ask Bids for Resurfacing; Oberleas Due for Confab. Plans to widen Meridian St., beween Fall Creek and Thirty-Eighth t. have been dropped by the park oard. The board ordered Engineer J. E. 'erry to prepare specifications for the street in its present idth Thursday afternoon. Bids will e asked on all types of asphalt pavlg. Last week bids were rejected ith the explanation that there was possibility of widening the street. Property Owners Protested The project formerly was rejected n the protest of property owners. A itizen aroused Commission Michael :. Foley Thursday when he inquired c the Meridian widening project /as to be considered. Foley declared he would be oposed to the widening of the street nless the board of works widened le thoroughfare from Sixteenth to all Creek. Virgil Vandagrifft, oard of works president, said it ould be financially impossible t ndertake the project at this time. Oberleas to See Mayor Chester C. Oberleas, former city engineer ousted by Mayor Duvall, 3 expected to confer with the mayor elative to his offer of the position ,s assistant park engineer. Oberleas is now city engineer at Jeffersonville. Bids on the Brookside Commulity house were rejected because all rids were above the engineer’s estinate of $109,000. New bids will be xsked. A 9-cent tax levy will be asked for the park department for 1928 md a 2-cent levy for the recreation department. Irvington Commerce and Welfare Association filed a protest against the acquisition of 109 acres of Dr. H. H. Wheeler for a north side park, park.
