BEARS FAIL TO MAKE DECLINE LASHLL DAY Call Money Eases and List Starts to Rise Close Near Previous Mark.
Average Stock Prices
Average of twenty industrials Tuesday was 166.40. up .67. Average of twenty rails was 133.36, unchanged. Average of forty bonds was 96.80, off .08. Bu T : uited Prat* NEW YORK, June 29.—Attempts of the bear element to continue the decline of Tuesday in today’s session were repulsed in later dealings when call money eased off to 4% per cent from its renewal rate of 5 per cent. v Asa result of the easement in the money market, issues, which included some of the market leaders, starte dto recover from their lows of the day to around previous closing levels. United States Steel moved in a narrow range throughout the session, although at one time it was about half below Tuesday’s final quotation. Other industrials ranged about their previous closing levels. Rails were under pressure for a time following the announcement that New York Central planned to isssue about $35,000,000 additional stock at par. An easier tone in call money came to the market’s rescue today. For a time during the morning the general list appeared on the threshold of another bad break. Baldwin dropped sharply on further curtailment of the company’s operations. Selling spread throughout the list and the whole market was under severe pressure. However, the selling was checked when the demand rate dropped off to per cent after renewals had been arranged at 5 per cent. Last year the stringency resulting from the July 1 disbursements did nat, relax until after the turn of June. The fact that the easement set In two days earlier this year was taken to mea‘i that credit conditions were suffering no ill effects from stock market speculation.

In the Sugar Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK, June 29.—Just 100 July notices were issued yesterday, most of which were stopped almost immediately, the others remainnig in circulation until noon with little or no effect on the market. There was some buying of the late months, as well as some selling, the producing interests 'and European houses appearing on both sides of the market. Most of the day’s trading w-as in switching. There is a little more bearish sentiment apparent at the moment, based on technical conditions, but on the merits of the situation itself I still advise the buying side.
In the Cotton Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK, June 29.—The weather has been very good this week and it is expected that the Government wil! say so tn its report today. But how about the poll weevil? Will the report verify the mass of private messages that they are increasing everywhere? I mention that the weather must furnish the main theme for the market. Everything else is a variation which can only add to the number of ups and downs. Marriage Licenses Norman Wilson. 27. 1205 N. Oakland, bookkeeper, and Elizabeth Spurgeon, 27, 1231, 1231 N. Oakland. TRADE QUIET ON CHICAGO BOARD; GRAINSDECLINE Wheat Off More Than Cent, Corn Around 2 and Oats Near Point at Close. Bu United Press CHICAGO, June 29.—Activities on the Chicago Board of Trade today were quiet, in contest to the bullish tendency which characterized the markets recently, and all grains lost slightly during early and mid-session trading. Wheat moved within a narrow range and the trading was light. Wheat closed 1',4 to 1% lower. Corn at one time in the morning had lost 2c, but later recovered slightly. Favorable weather and fear that the Legislature might railroad the Kessinger bill through in last minute action held the traders in check. Com closed off 2 to 2'4. Oats followed the tendencies of other grains and fell off early. The trade in this pit was dull and without feature. The close was % to lc lower. Provisions were about steady.
