Both the Federal and State governments devote millions of dollars each year to the study of diverse farm problems ranging from soil analysis and plant and animal diseases to problem of cooperating and marketing. But In spite of all that has been done and is being done, I believe there is a pronounced need for greater efforts in the field of pure science, a field in which the United States is far behind many European countries. l We have made astonishing progress In applying the results of pure science, but in order that this uselul work may go on unabated we Seed the fundamental facts that can He obtained only by a wide and deep Hterest in scientific work which is Kt necessarily directed toward the Hlutjons of any particular agricultural or industrial problems. I Work for Young Men I There is big work ahead for young fcnen interested in pure science and phe basic facts they discover will shape and guide the agriculture of the future as well as industry. The great scientific era of the past century seems to be expanding into a still greater one. In chemistry, in physics, in biology, in agriculture more discoveries are now being made in a day than were

Georgia also received considerable numbers. Bob white quail from the higher altitudes of Mexico have been found to do well In this country, especially in the middle and southern States, freely interbreeding with the native quail. The importation of quail is in the charge of United States Bureau of Biological Survey and can only be done under permit. In a Mexican home the sofa is the seat of honor and the guest does not sit on it unless requested to do so.
