GRAND MASTER TO BEHONORED City Masons Are Invited to Attend Reception. All Masons of Marion County are invited by Ancient Landmarks Lodge, No. 319, F. & A. M., to attend a reception Saturday night at the Masonic Temple in honor of Obie J. Smith, past master of the Ancient Landmarks Lodge, elected grand master of the Indiana Grand Lodge in May. The reception program wiL began at 8, followed by a musical entertainment and dancing. All Masons are urged to bring their wives. The Ancient Landmarks Lodge reception committee in charge of the affair consists of Chairman Wyiie W. Wiles, Frank W. Morrison, James F. Overtree, J. D. Moschelle, M. E. CHICAGO TIE-UP NEAR Strike on Surface and ‘L’ Lines Threatens. lines. The trainmen claim they must have additional pay. The “L” employees yesterday voted to give their officials power to call a strike in case negotiations can not be worked out agreeably. The same action was taken by the surface car employes June 9. Such a strike would tie up almost every means of transportation—save for suburban steam trains and busses—between the residential and business sections of the city. 1,800 Years Old, Still Active ROME. CASE OF SACCO MAKESHISTORY Interest in Radicals’ Fate at Fever Heat Over World. WASHINGTON, June 17.—1n the extent of its world-wide interest, the Sacco-Vanzetti case is unprecedented in American history. This opinion was voiced today at the State Department where protests against execution of the Italian radicals continue to arrive from remote corners of the earth. The latest country to forward a large volume is Australia. State Department officials express doubt that even the famous Dreyfus courtmartial in France, which stirred France and America, had the universal appeal that the SaccoVanzettl case now has. In the Dreyfus case the interest did not extend in the same degree to LatinAmeridSt. Asia and Europe. The protests that come in range from dignified pleas from high foreign officials to typical "black hand" letters, bearing the customary crossbones and skull decorations.
