The board of works will open bids Friday on the Pleasant Run mam interceptor sewer, estimated to cost $782,521. The sewer will begin near Arlington Ave. and join Bean Creek interceptor in Garfield Park. A popularity contest will be held in connection with the annual feast of lanterns of the Brookside Civic League July 29-30. Entries may be made until June 25. Those entering this week will receive 5,000 votes, according to Mrs. Ross Ziegner, contest chairman, 2115 Nowland Ave. The winner will be crowned queen of the feast. An additional story to the Meridian Garage, 216 N. Meridian St., accommodating seventy-five autos | has been begun. Work will be completed in late summer, W. A.! Atkins, president, said. H. O. Mekelvey, 5348 Winthrop Ave., asked police to order a dog which bit his daughter Esther, 9, penned up ten days for observation. The doctor who treated his daughter directed the dog be penned up, but its owner, a woman, living at Thirty-Eighth St. and Central Ave., slammed the door in his face, he j told police. C. O. Ketteriing, 1539 E. Washington St., said five young men who frequent Willard Park beat him in the front yard of his home Monday night. He could suggest no motive. John E. Moore, 57, of 1523 N. Capitol Ave., is in city hospital with head and face lacerations suffered when struck Monday night at Capitol Ave. and Sixteenth St. by a car driven by Mrs. Nellie Swiggart, 249 Dickson St. Mrs. Swiggart told police that Moore and a companion stepped into the street just as the traffic light changed.
