CLERK FACES CHARGE Refusal to Okeh Manager Petition Brings Action. By United Press EVANSVILLE, Ind, June 10.— Contempt ol court charges were brought against City Clerk Louis Sarlls today in Circuit Court by city manager forces. The action, citing Sarrls for contempt, grew out of the city clerk’s refusal to certify a manager petition containing over 13,000 names to the city council for an election after he had been mandated by Special Judge James Cutler. Bu United Press NEW YORK, June 10.—Capt, Charles A. Lindbergh wasn’t the first daredevil to find his way to Europe all by himself. Without detracting from the glory that is Lindbergh's, there was old Capt. Joshua Slocum, a salt-water hero of the ’9os, who set alone from Boston in a sloop of his own building April 24. 1895, and three months and seven days later tied up at Gibraltar to the astonishment of the maritime world. And did Cap'n Slocum retire then to sailors’ snug harbors? He did not. Cap’n Slocum took his sloop on around the world and came home more than three years and two months later with 46,000 miles of single-handed travel under his gallusses, to an ovation that never curdled him a bit. .
