CLOSE WATCH WILL BE KEPT ON MOTORISTS Tourists Are Warned That They Must Observe All State Laws. All motorists on State highways will be watched this week to see that they observe all State laws regarding operation of motor cars, according to Robert T. Humes, chief of the State police, in an effort to check reckless driving and promote safety on the highways this summer. "The operator of an automobile has certain obligations placed upon him by law,” says Humes, "which are for his own benefit and the benefit of others who have an equal right to use the highway. Arm signjfcLare required by law for every of a motor vehicle. • "At this season of year, when curtains are down and windows are lowered, there is n<s excuse for failure to give arm signals and once the habit is formed signallying requires little or no thought. Arm Signals Listed "Arm signals required by law are as follows: Left Turn—Extend left arm in horizontal position. Right Turn—Extend left arm with forearm raised perpendicularly and at right angles to main arm. Stop—Extend left arm in horizontal position and move it up and down in vertical direction. Slow Down—Same signal as for stopping. Back out from Curb—Same signal as for left turn. Head out from Curb—Same signal as for left turn. Horn Signals Required Curves —Slow down and signal with horn or bell. Obscured Corners—Same as for curves.

Road Intersections—Same as for curves. Passing Another Vehicle Slow down and give one long blast of the horn or bell. “When arm signals are given, they should be executed emphatically, so that the motorist approaching and .the motorist in the rear can not mistake the intentions of the one giving the signal. Arm signals improperly given or poorly executed really are worse than none at all, for many wrecks are caused when otbefs on the highway misinterpret one’s intentions. “It is not the intent of the law that a signal may be given by a motorist who immediately puts into action the operation of the car for which he lias signaled. The motorist in the rear and in front must first see the signal and have time to operate their cars away from danger. f Causes Many Mishaps "The motorist who signals for a left turn and immediately turns left has caused many accidents on State highways. Taking a left turn in front of a fast approaching car is little short of committing suicide. When signaling for a left turn the motorist must regard the possibilties of a car behind which may be In the act of passing or a car in front which is approaching him at a speed too fast to permit the left turn to be made. "The deadly left turn must be made slowly and cautiously. "While the speed limit has been increased in Indiana to forty miles an hour, the law still says that the motorist shall drive at a safe and reasonable speed. A speed of forty

MUSCATATUCK GETS REWARD State Park Playground Favorded by Fishers. A playground long overlooked, but coming into its own, is Muscatatuck State Park, in Jennings County, near North Vernon. Muscatatuck Park is a charming section for which the Muscatatuck River has been famed. Its main feature is a rocky gorge, cut by a small tributary, with heavily wooded slopes on either side. Jennings County has been noted as a hunting ground and the Muscatatuck River as fc bass stream. Muscatatuck Inn is becoming noted as a resort for hunters and fishermen. The Inn, in delightful place, is a remodeled farmhouse with large openings between the lobby, dining room and hallways. It is kept immaculate, cool and inviting. No matter in what direction one miles an hour through heavy traffic would not be reasonable and neither is such speed reasonable or safe when the roads are wet or slick. "Especial care should be exercised around curves and at the crest of hills where vision is obscured.”
