HILL COUNTRY LURESTOURIST Region Equal to Lakes Land in Popularity. Probably no part of Indiana is more alluring to the motor tourist than the hill country of southern Indiana. It equals the lake country of the northern part of the State in popularity. Landscape of infinite charm and variety awaits the pleasure of the visitor. Rugged forest lands, picturesque farmlands, deep, mysterious hollows all call to the sceneryloving tourist. For many years this amazingly beautiful country was accessible only by horses and horse-drawn vehicles. Then the State got busy and built fine roads, which materially facilitate entrance to the show places. Down here one may find Wyandotte cave, Marengo cave and other scenes. One will be astounded by the vastness of such institutions as Oldenburg convent and St. Meinrad monastery. Ancient towns like Madison, Salem, Corydon and Vevay beckon the history lovers. Down here one may find the Ohio River drifting through beautiful hills in seeming laziness, or perhaps a hesitancy to hasten past such scenic grandeur. Great wooded areas await the camper, hills the hiker. State roads lead into the heart of this country, making it even more accessible than some of the lakes to the north.
