‘The World at Her Feet/ 'Scarlet Letter/ ‘Fast and Furious’ and ‘Senorita’ Open Engagements Here Sunday Afternoon. Whether a woman can he successful in managing both a JAreer and a husband is a question cleverly and humorously donated in Florence Vidor’s new picture, “The World at Her Feet,” to he presented at the Apollo next week. The picture, a comedy directed by Luther Reed, was adapted from the French farce, “Lawyer Bolbec and Her Husband,’’ by Georges Boer and Louis Vernbull.
In the star's support are Arnold Kent, Richard Tucker, Margaret Quimby, William Austin and David Torrence. Partners in a law firm consisting solely of themselves as well as in matrimony, Richard and Jane Randall get along famously until Richard, coming into a fortune, elects to retire from practice. Ambitious and immersed in her career as a barrister Jane decides to continue alone. Within a short time Jane has drawn such a wealthy and important clique of clients about her that she finds “the world at her feet.” She neglects her husband, and to retrieve her affections and interest in himself Richard embarks upon plan that involves another woman. In retaliation Jane apparently follows a similar course with another man. Events happen with startling and hilarious suddenness and while the plot abounds in keen satire, there is also an undercurrent of well pointed truths that will appeal to married folk and all those who contemplate entering the marriage state. A Hal Roach comedy, “Jewish Prudence,” featuring Max Davidson, gtlio Fox news weekly, an organ solo Earl Gordon, and musical entertainment, by Emil Seidel’s Apollo Merrymakers will complete the program. “THE SCARLET LETTER” DI E AT THE CIRCLE Lillian Gish comes to the Circle tomorrow in “The Scarlet Letter,” the screen version of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s story of the same name. “The Scarlet Letter,” presents Miss Gish in the tragic role of a Puritan woman, Hester Prynne, who, to shield from the intolerance of the Puritans, the man she loves, wears a letter of shame on her breast throughout her lifetime. Lars Hanson, famous Swedish star, makes his American dehut in the new picture as Miss Gish’s .leading man, and Henry B. Walthall the “Little Colonel”, of “The Birth of a Nation,” is playing an important role in support of Miss Gish for the first time since that memorable production. Victor Seastrom has directed “The Scarlet Letter,” which has been produced on a lavish scale, with hundreds of people in the powerful scenes in the village market place. The cast includes Karl Dane of “The Big Parade” fame, William H. Tooker, Marcelle Corday, Joyce Goad and Jules Cowles. Stolarvsky has prepared an especially beautiful musical setting for “The Scarlet Letter,’ ’and this will be played by the Circle Concert Orunder bis direction. Wvitaphone 'features for the week will be Douglas Stanberry, baritone, and Marie Gambarelli, dancer, and well-known stars of “Roxy’s Radio Gang” in “A Moonlight Romance;” Eddie Conrad, Broadway’s favorite comedian; John Charles Thomas and Vivienne Segal, musical comedy stars, singing the Sweetheart song from “Maytime;” and Lincoln Caswell, presenting Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, j The Circle News completes the program. BEBE DANIELS’ LATEST BOOKED AT THE OHIO Coming to the Ohio next week is '.lobe Daniels’ newest Paramount picire, “Senorita,”’in which Miss Danols is presented in an entirely new vpa of role. It is a colorful story i romance and adventure in South America, and the fascinating Bebe qipears in the character of a dashing cabellero, a swashbuckling, high pirited, hot tempered son of the Pampas. The masculine characterisation is but a masquerade, however, that leads her into all sprts of adventures and many amusing situations. She emerges from them all in, true Daniels style. The role presents anew Bebe Daniels, a suggestion of whom was found in “The Campus Flirt” and to a certain extent in “A Kiss in a Taxi.” In fact, it was the athletic role of “The Campus Flirt” that suggested .to Miss Daniels the possibility of donIning masculine guise and giving full kay to her love for all kinds of Riorts. In “Senorita” she fornid the fruition of her ambition and as the North American girl becomes, for the time being, a South American boy she lias the time of her life. She rides, shoots, fences and does everything that a real son of the pampas would do. Playing opposite Miss, Daniels is
James Hall, her leading man of “The Campus Flirt,” and “Stranded in Paris.” It is one of the interesting twists of the story that Hall in hi.; role as Roger Oliveros, meets her in her rare moments of complete feminity in the picture. William Powell, the smooth, suave villian of society dramas, appears in a swaggering role that is said to present him in an unusually interesting light. Others in the cast are Josef Swickurd, Joan Standing, George Ovey and Gayne Whitman. “Man About Town” is the title of the O. Henry comedy that will also he shown. The program will be completed by a Pathe news reel. WORLD PREMEIRE OF MOVIE AT COLONIAL , It is seldom that Indianapolis Is honored with a world’s premiere showing of a motion picture, but tomorrow this noteworthy event will take place at che Colonial with the showing of “Fast and Furious,” starring Reginald Denny. It might he well to state that the reason for this honor being shown our fair city is because it is motor race week and the picture is an epic of the automobile race track. In fact though t ie complete reports are unavailable, it is said that “Fast and Furious” is the best picture Denny has yet made, which is saying considerable when one looks back over the list of successes this famous star lias made for the screen. Coming as it does at a time when the whole city, as a matter of fact, the whole nation, is all heated up over the Indianapolis Speedway races, It should prove to lie a particularly interesting and well patronized program. Barbara Worth and Claude Dillingwater hettd a well selected supporting cast. An interesting announcement is that of the installation of the Colonial theater pipe orgqn, after several weeks of unavoidable delay. It will feature the Coloniali musical program from now on. The short reels include a Wisecracker comedy, “Turkish Howls,” from the H. VV. Witwer story of the same name and a first run Fox News weekly. NEW MOVIE BOOKED AT ISIS The long-heralded Western drama with the “different” plot is at hand. It is “Lightning Lariats” starring Tom Tyler, and it will be shown at the Isis the first half of next week. Nary a cattle rustler, or a bandit infests the film. This doesn't mean that there is any lack of thrills or excitement. To the contrary, there is plenty of the sort of action of the kind dyed-in-the-wool Western fans dote on.
