STONE, GRAVEL ROADS BENEFUTED ' BV HEAVY RAINS Highway Bulletin Lists Conditions—Tornado Damage Not Cited. “Heavy mid week rains, generally throughout Indiana, benefit rather than damage stone and grhvel surface roads,” says .the weekly bulletin on road constitutions sent out by the State Highway Department. Effects of a tornado on the roads is not mentioned, fcs the bulletin was prepared before “the night of the big wind.” Latest reports on roads leading out of Indianapolis are as follows: U. S. No. :n (Louisville, Seymour. Columbus. Indianapolis, ..-Peru, Plymouth, South Bend, Michigan line) —Short detour in edge of Jeffersonville account paving. Loose stone for four miles between Seymour and Columbus. Run-around at eight and one-half miles south of Columbus. Detour between Columbus and Amity for paving. Temporary run-around at eleven . miles north of Kokomo. Run-around at one mile north of Peru. No 29 (Madison. Versailles, Greensburg, Shelbyville. Indianapolis, Kirklin, Logansport. La Porte, junction of No. 20 near Michigan City)—Closed at one mile north of Madison for construction: detour is over concrete road to. North Madison Detour V-ouml construction just south of Greensbiire, one mile of which is very narrow. Detour from one mile north of Burlington to near Deer Creek for construction. Detour from Knox to a point six miles north at junction of No. 30 aecounfr-pf having. No 30 (authorized but not maintained from Illinois line to Montezuma—thence to Rockville. Indianapolis, Rushville, Brookville, Cincinnati) —Detour from east edge of Montmorenci to one and one-half miles east of Otterbein. Two detours between Lebanon and Lafayette in fair shape. Paving between Marion Coxintv line and Rushville. with detours for local traffic. Indianapolis-Rushville traffic use National Rd. 40 to Dunreith, thence south on No. 3. Building twelve bridges and paving between Marion County line and Morristown: local detours only. No. 67 (Vincennes, BicknelL Spencer, Indianapolis. Anderson. Muncie) —Short detour around paving of gap near Ingalls. U. S. No. 150 (Junction of 50 near Shoals. Paoli. New Albany)—Under construction from West Baden and French Lick to Paoli and thence to Palmyra. There is a local detour between West Baden and Paoli. but through traffic is routing on No. 50 to Mitchell, thence south on 37 to Paoli, thence east on 56 to Salem, thence south on 45 to Palmyra and back to 150. Through traffic is using French Lick and West Baden as stop-overs between Vincennes and New Albany. TWO”CRASHES IN ONE Driver Suffer Double Accident Trying to Avoid Hit. Hampton Polsgrove, 3459 Kenwood Ave., chose what he believed to be the lesser of two evils Thursday night and was doubly rewarded —with both evils. Chosing to run into the curb with his new automobile to avoid striking Charles -Jones, 37, 150 W. TwentyNinth St., bicyclist, at Capitol Ave. and Twenty-Ninth. St'., Polsgrove hit both the curb and the bicycle. The machine waS badly damaged. Jones was uninjured. - • Judson Winner Times Special ~ SHELBYVILLE, Ind., May 20. Less than thirty minutes were required for a jury to find for the plaintiff and set aside the will of Elizabeth O. Smith, in the case of Emmet Judson against Charles E. Smith. It required three and a half weeks to hear the evidence. The case had come here on a change of venue from Marion County.

The human factor In Industry will be discussed at the second monthly meeting of the City Foremen's Club at the Eli Lilly & Cos. plant, Tuesday night. L. A. Hartley, Chicago, will be speaker. At the same time delegates to the tannual convention of the Association of Foremen at Cincmnati, Saturday, will report on the success of their effort to bring the 1928 convention to Indianapolis. Arrangements for the Tuesday meeting, to follow a cafeteria supper, are in the charge of William Elliott, U. S. Rubber Company.
