FOREST RANGER’S WORK CANT BE * TAUGHTBYMAIL Federal Authority May Be invoked Against Correspondence Schools. Times Washington Bureau, 1323 New York Auenue WASHINGTON, May 13.—Eastern dudes who think they can take correspondence courses in horseback riding timber scaling and surveying to qualify as forest rangers in the government service, are giving the native western rangers lots of laughs these days, according to the U. S. forestry service. A number of correspondence schools have been advertising training by mail to enable students to pass the forest ranger examinations. These schools have pictured forest ranging as a soft out-of-door job, consisting largely of riding horseback through the woods. Asa matter of fact, the work is hard and exacting, and can hardly be done by a man who has not grown up in the country where he would be a ranger, according to Will C. Barnes, government forest inspector. What Job Means The jobs which a ranger must handle include: surveying government land for homesteaders, scaling timber and marking it with the UJnited States seal when it is sold to " saw mill, building government trails in United States forests and keeping these clear, hunting up tourists who have lost their way in the woods, keeping constantly in touch with lookouts who watch for forest fires, riding the ranges to see whether grazers have their stock in the proper places, and in the numbers for which they have contracted. The forest rangers liaVe to trail poaching herders and see that they do not steal forage from Uncle Sam; they stock streams with fish and check up on hunters and fishers to be sure that game laws are being respected. They assist in cattle round-ups. Hard Job; Small Pay All told, it’s a hard job, and what’s more, it will never make a man rich, inasmuch as it pays only $1,200 to SI,BOO per year. However, that much money goes quite a way in a government national farest, and in addition Uncle Sam gives each of his 1,500 rangers a cabin to live in, feed for his horse, and pays his expenses when he has to be away from home over night in line of duty. For an out-of-door man who knows the country, it is attractive work, but since one of the qualifications for rangers is residence in the State where the ranging is to be done, eastern boys will do well not to listen to siren songs of correspondence schools, Barnes says. Money paid for these courses will bo money thrown away. | An attempt is being made to stop "ue-h schools from conducting their business through the mails.

Eczema On Head For Ten Years Cuticura Heals
“ Eczema broke out on my head In little, watery pimples and soon spread all over it. My scalp itched so that I scratched it into sore eruptions that scaled over. When I combed my hair my scalp used to bleed and hurt terribly. My hair fell out and was so dry that it used to break off. I could not sleep on account of the itching and burning. The trouble lasted about ten years. “I began using Cuticura Soap and Ointment and after a couple of treatments my head was much better.
