PRESIDENT UNDER STRICT GUARD BY SECRETSERVICE Personal Police of White House Also Keeps Close j Watch. f ßu United Press WASHINGTON, May 6. Although no attempts to do physical harm to a President have been made In recent years, an extensive system has been built up to protect him. No king is guarded more carefully. Every time he steps out of his house, from four to six secret service men in plain clothes accompany him. One walks at his side and converses with him when he goes on his walks through the streets. Three are usually lined up a few feet behind him. Guards in Car When he travels by automobile, a secret service car accompanies him a few feet in the rear. At least one secret service man stands on the running board ready to jump at the slightest indication of danger. The moment the President’s car stops they swarm up around him. , When the President travels by train the same retinue of guards go with him. A lone engine is usually run over the tracks a half mile ahead of the Presidential train to tesfc-Ahe track and guard against accident. All other trains must go to sidings to let the presidential train through. Own Police Force In addition to the secret service detail the President has his own police force, known as the White House police. This group consists of a half dozen men in uniform who guard the White House and the executive of- , fices day and night. One Secret Service man is always , allotted to the wife of the President. , She never goes out unless accompanied by this plainclothes protector. The necessity for this close protection has irritated some Presi- j dents in recent years, but they have ; to submit to it.

completely ended the neuritis trouble I had been suffering over 15 years,” said Mr. Wm. J. Donelson (home address 2551 Stout St., Denver, Colo., in a report made to the Konjola Man at Hook's Drug Store, Pennsylvania and Market Sts., Indianapolis, where he is explaining this surprising new medicine to large crowds daily. Mr. Donelson reports that he is 80 years old and served in the Civil War. He states that Konjola was the first medicine that really ended his neuritis pains in 16 years, and said that he wants other sufferers to know about this medicine. “My shoulders had been a mass of pains,” said Mr. Donelson. “I was constantly suffering because this neuritis became worse in recent years. I couldn’t use my right arm or hand. The pains would center in my head, an<f the muscles and leaders in my neck seemed to pull and draw. Finally my limbs became a fleeted, and I had to limp when I walked, dragging one foot after the other. I felt sore and achy all over, and people looked upon me as a cripple. “When I reached Indianapolis I had no idea I would find the medicine to help me. I read about Konjola in the papers, and started taking it. Within a few days I felt much better in general and some of the pains were gone. I continued with Konjola and the second week I was entirely well. All the pains had gone, and now I can walk without limping and I can use my right arm as good as anyone. I never have the headaches any more and sleep better than I have in years. In fact, I am feeling like I never had neuritis in my life. "Konjola also benefited me in other ways, because P was subject to night rising, due to w\eak kidneys, and this trouble is entirely gone. I gladly indorse such a medicine to others.” The Konjola Man is at Hook’s Drug Store, Pennsylvania and Market Sts., Indianapolis, where lie is daily .meeting the local public and introducing and explaining the merits of thin remedy. Konjola is sold by ovary Hook drug store in this city and all druggists throughout this section, —Advertisement.

JOKE AIMED AT BRITISH MARINES ENDSIN DEATH 'Ghost’ Stabbed With Bayonet by. Sentry—Cold Brought End. Bit United Press LONDON, May 6.—A ghost story that made the British Army and Navy laugh at the marines, has ended tragically with the death of James William Smith, 26, a royal marine. Smith played a practical joke on John C. Moat, a young recruit. In their barracks at Deal lie talked of a ghost that had often been seen around the grounds, and Moat listened. That night Moat went on sentry duty and was walking, after midnight, near a clump of trees when he suddenly saw a white object with (lowing robes approach him. I “I took the white-elad figure for
a ghost,” he told the coroner’s Jury. “I was startled, but approached the object and challenged it. There was no reply. Suddenly the object ran
