COLLINS ORDERS !URY DISMISSED (Continued From Page 1) vestigation of alleged charges of “political corruption.’’ As soon as lhis matter was brought to the attention of the Court an order was entered, directing. the prosecuting attorney to file an information against said , James K. Armitage charging him with contempt of the Criminal Court of Marion County and the Grand Jury of said county. Upon the tiling of this information, a rule to show cause w hy said James E. Armitage should be attached and punished for contempt was duly issued out of this Court, and in response to said rule to show cause, the defendant Armitage presented himself and filed a verified answer denying all of the allegations made in the statement of said Claude Achey. The Court held the answer insufficient to purge him of the contempt charged in said information and this cause was set for hearing on the 20th day of April. On the 4th day of May, the r Court, after hearing the evidence, adjudged the answer and evidence of said James E. Armitage to be insufficient and found him guilty of contempt of the Criminal Court of Marion County and the Grand Jury thereof, as charged in the information, and assessed a fine of SSOO, to which was added imprisonment in the Marion County"',jail for three months. During the hearing of said matter, no evidence was introduced that cast any reflection upon the honesty and integrity of any member of the Grand Jury, however, the nature of the charges made by Grand Juror Achey against James

in right now and take Lydia E. Pinkhaxn’s Vegetable Compound. I have tried the Compound myself and received fine results.” Ir, deserning her condition before laking the'Compound, she writes, was afra.d in my own house in broad daylight, I used to lock the doors and pull down the shades so that nobody could gee me.” One day a booklet advertising the Vegetable Compound was left on her porch and ehe read It through. In so doing, she found a letter from a woman •whose condition was similar to her own. “I bought the Vegetable Compound,” Mrs. Lorberter continued, “and have had fine results. The condition I was in made me a burden to my husband. Now I ask “How is housp’.eeping?”and he says, “It is just like be’- ~ In Heaven!” —Ad vortlsomont.

E. Armitage were of such a character as to cast suspicion upon this body as now constituted. “Engaged as yon have been In investigating charges of alleged political corruption, such charges as made by a member of your body, would, in (he very nature of things, cast suspicion upon the grand jury as a whole. “The grand jury is an arm of tills court. Its duties are the most important that a citizen is called upon to perform and in order to function properly and have the confidence of the community, it must be like Caesar’s wife, ‘above suspicion.’ The publicity given to the hearing growing out of the charges set out in the information of the prosecuting attorney, during the five days of the presentation of evidence in support of said charges, leads tiie court to the conclusion that the usefulness of the grand jury, as now composed, has been destroyed. “Therefore, under and by virtue of the authority vested in me, under the provision of Section 2120 Burns Revised Statutes, 1926, the grand jury of Marion County, for the January term, 192”, is now discharged.
