GOSPEL CONFAB HERE MAY 14-19 500 American, Canadian Delegates to Attend Five hundred delegates representing nearly 300 missions in the United States and Canada, religious workers from a number of other organizations and ministers from all sections of America will attend th© fourteenth annual convention of the International Union of Gospel Missions to he held here, May 14-19, The Rev. H. E. Eberhardt, superintendent of Wheeler City Mission, Convention host, says that nearly one hundred gospel mission leaders will appear on the program. Among these will be, John Callahan, Tombs prison chaplain; Tom Noonan, midnight mission superintendent, and A. L. Jones, McAuley Mission head, all of New York; J. C. Davis, Toronto, Canada: W. E. Paul, Minneapolis, Minn., international union president; George W. Soerlieide, Cleveland; Mr. and Mrs. John Bennett, Washington, D. C.; H. IT. Kratzlg, Norfolk, Va.; A. T. Robertson, Louisville, Ky.; G. A. Kilby, Chicago, 111.; S. B. Mayfield, Ft. Worth, Tex., and L. L. Scharferstein, New Orleans, La. The convention sessions will be held at the Central Christian Church with a series of noon-day meetings at Keith’s Theater. At a banquet to be held at the First United Brethren Church, Saturday evening, May 14, to welcome the delegates, speakers will bfe, Governor Ed Jackson, Mayor John L. Duvall. Earl Conder, president cf the Indianapolis Church Federation, and Robert E. Hicks, South Whitley, editor. TO HOLD ORATORY MEET Methodists to Have Indianapolis District Contest Wednesday. The Indianapolis district contest of th# nation-wide oratorical contests sponsored by the Methodist board of temperance, prohibition and public morals will be held Wednesday at Fletcher Place Methodist church, Virginia Ave. and South St. Rev. C. M Craft is the Indianapolis district captain. The contests are being conducted to stimulate interest in the pro-, hibition question. Prizes of SI,OOO, SSOO and $250 will be awarded in the national finals contest at Washington June 17. PLAN TRIP TO SHRINE Lincoln Memorial Union to Visit Nancy Hanks Para. Members of the executive committee of Lincoln Memorial Union will leave Friday noon for a motor trip to Lincoln City and the site of the Nancy Hanks’ shrine. . Friday night will be spent at Evansville. Short service will be conducted at the Nancy Hanks grave, Mrs. Anne Studebaker Carlisle, South Bend, chairman of the union, presenting a wreath. The party will return to Indianapolis by way of French Lick. HELD IN KERRICK DEATH Screen Cowboy's Widow Among Those Sent to Jail Without Bail. Bii United Press LOS ANGELES, May 3.—Five persons were held without bail in the county, jail today under indictment for the murder of Tom Kerrick, Screen cowboy, shot last week during an alleged drinking party in his home. The five, including all who had been present when the actor was slain are: Mrs. Sarah Kerrick, his widow; Miss Iris Burns, Miss Anita Davis and Henry Isabel, all film “extras,” and Joe Hunt.

KANE STATE AID AGAINST STEVE Gilliom’s Office to Oppose Demands for Interview. Attorney General Arthur L. GilUom has appointed Ralph K. Kane, Indianaitolis attorney, to represent the State in the suit brought by Attorney Robert H. Moore, Michigan City, to mandate Warden Walter H. Daly to permit Moore and his stenographer to Interview D. C. Stephenson privately at Michigan City prison, where he Is serving a life sentence for murder. Kane was special prosecutor In the murder case. The mandamus petition sets forth that Moore would confer with Stephenson to secure information on which legal moves might be made to release him from prison. It alleges that tampering, jury coercion and other irregularities weer resorted to by the State to secure conviction. Kane will deny this in the Michigan City court soon. Appeal of the murder case has already been Instituted in the Supreme Court and Stephenson's attorneys are to file their brief on May 25. Habeas corpus proceedings also are pending in the high court on appeal.
