COUNTY SCHOOL GRADUATES SHOW i HEAVYJNCREASE 850 This Year Is Largest ( Number in History—2o f Per Cent Over 1926. An increase of about 20 per cent In the number of graduates this year in grade and high schools in Marion County outside of Indianapolis was pointed out today by County Superintendent of Schools Lee Swails. Swails said 850 children will be graduated from county schools this year, 210 of this number leaving the high schools. This is the largest number of children to be graduated in the history of the county, Swails declared. Last year graduates totaled 730. Five Have Exercises Several county schools already have held commencement exercises. New Augusta high and grade schools, the Castleton High School and the Glenns Valley school have held their exercises within the last week. Tuesday, Washington township schools held exercises in the John Strange school on E. Sixty-Third St., and School 14 in. Wayne township, held its commencement. Milo H. Bounces Off Bed; Falls 3 Stories 1111 United Press CHELSEA, Mass., April 27. —While jumping up and down on a bed James McCarthy, 4, was bounced through an open window and fell three stories. At a hospital it was found he had escaped with a broken leg and-bruises.

Judge James A. Collins spoke to the Wayne township graduates. Edgowood Commencement Tonight Roscoe Scott of Franklin, a lecturer, will speak at the Edgewood grade school commencement. He will address the Valley Mills High School pupils Friday night. The Ben Davis High School will hold its commencement Thursday night, with Louis Dirks, dean of men at De Pauw University, as the speaker. Secretary of State Frederick E. Schortemeier will address graduates of Perry township School 9 Thursday evening. L. A. Pittenger of the Muncie Normal School and majority floor leader in the House of Representatives, will speak at the Southport High School commencement Saturday night. 1928 QUIZ TO COOUDGE Letter From Editor of the Forum Given President’s Secretary. Bu United Press WASHINGTON, April 27.—An open letter published in the Forum, a monthly magazine, asking President Coolidge if he would be a candidate for another term. Tuesday was presented to Edward T. Clark, the President’s personal secretary. The letter was written by Henry Goddard Leach, editor of the magazine, and was presented by Edward C. Aswell, his secretary.

Announce Cast for St. John Class Play The Senior Class of St. John Academy will present "A Southern Cinderella,’’ a comedy-drama, Friday, at 8 p. m., at the St. Philip Neri Hall. The Cinderella role is played by Margaret High. Eileen Moore, as Mammy Judy Johnson, has the comedy role and others taking leading parts are Clara Peterson, Rita Hess, Dorothy Cecil, Helen Whittingham and Catherine Ray. Guests at a Colonial Ball are Catherine Ashcraft, Alice Bakius, Gertrude Bechert, Helen Carroll, Nora Barton, Dora Cecil, Anne Condron, Beatrice Datzman, Nellie Farrell, Edna Fitzgibbons, Josephine Slinger, Thelma Jenkins, Mary Miller, Eileen Neff, Lucille Orphey, Mary Mullaney, Marie A. The music will be furnished by the St. John Academy Orchestra. Dancing parts were trained by Miss Juliet Panden. MAKE ELECTION PLANS Manager Vote Officials to Name Watchers and Challengers. Plans for city manager election, June 21, were made Tuesday by the * election commissioners. Commissioners W. H. Insley, representative of the city manager organization and Fred W. Connell of the opposite faction, will point watchers and challengers. Clinton H. Givan, election board attorney, read a preliminary legal report. City Clerk William A. AIRSHIP FINALLY LANDS' Heavy Winds Had Kept the Lfc Angeles Up Since Tuesday. Bu United Press LAKEHURST, N. J.. April 27. The Navy dirigible Los Angeles was “walked” Jnto her hangar early today after remaining aloft since 9:30 a. m. Tuesday, when the ship returned from a three day trip to Pensacola, Fla. Heavy winds prevented the dirigible from being landed upon its return. The forty-four members of the crew of the Los Angeles seemed hardly more tired than the men at the station, who had remained on the alert while the ship was away. Today will be virtually a holiday for all hands, it was announced.
