Chapter 49 Continued Somehow their happiness in finding each other made her lonely. She wanted Deke. In her room she sat at her desk, trying to write to him. “But what could I say?’’ She slipped the ring he had given her from its hiding place against her soft bosom and looked at it. Should she return it? Would Deke ever want her to wear it now? Tears were threatening again and she forced herself to the telephone Presently a familiar voice greeted her. “Joyce Daring! Say, you've been bitting the high spots, ain’t you? Hop sent me the papei-s. Honest you can get a job any time you want it here I bet, with all that free front page advertising. Where you at? How's my Hop? I'm dying to see you." “And I want to see you, too. Can't We lunch together?” “Sure. The Plaza." “All right. At 1. I’ll take a taxi so as to be sure of not getting lost." She rapped on the door of her parents’ room and told them she was going out to lunch with Gladys. “Have a good time, Hass," said her father's kind voice. “Be back for supper and this evening we’ll all talk over our plans. Your mother and I are going to give you a home
ANOTHER WELL KNOWN LOCAL MAN INDORSES IT Retired Minister Tells How Konjola Relieved His Catarrhal and Kidney Trouble. “It. is appalling how catarrhal trouble is undermining the health of so many American people," said the Man yesterday at Hook’s

MR. ROBERT E. HIGGINS
Drug store, Pennsylvania and Market Sts., Indianapolis. “Catarrh is terrible,” he continued, "The distressing mucous in head, nose and throat; the weakened eyes; the awful headaches; the deafness and the terrible ringing and buzzing sound in the head —these symptoms drag down the body and destroy the strength and life energy of the sufferer. “The surest way to combat catarrh is through the inner-system, where it originates.” This Konjola preparation, -which is being sold in large quantities throughout Indianapolis, is a combination of twenty-two Nature products, juices extracted from herbs. These have splendid effect upon the blood and inner-system, as a purifer, cleanser, toning agent and eliminant. Konjola has given relief in Catarrhal cases which almost borders upon the amazing. Just a few days ago, Rev. Robert E. Higgins, for 30 years minister of the Gospel, now retired, living at 857 Rybolt St., Indianapolis, made the following statement about Konjola. “I want to tell the people of this city what Konjola has done for me,” said Rev. Higgins. “I had a very bad case of catarrh, and was told by best authorities that nothing would help me. At the same time, I was bothered with w-eak kidneys, being frequently disturbed at night. My back was always sore and achy. “I found out about the work of Konjola in Indianapolis, and decided to get this medicine. To my delight and surprise, it seemed to take effect in my case almost at once. About the fourth night I slept without being disturbed and since that time I have never had pains in my back. I feel sure that my kidneys are in good condition again. I also got wonderful relief from the catarrhal trouble, and now my head seems just as clear as a bell, and I notice improvement all over my system. I eat better and rest better than I have in years. “I want to say that anyone wanting to know more about my case will find me quite willing to tell them personally.” The Konjola Man is at Hook’s Drug store, Pennsylvania and Market Sts., Indianapolis, where he is daily meeting the public and introducing and explaining the merits of this remedy. Konjola is also for sale by every Hook Drug Store in this city and by all druggists in outside towns.—Advertisement.

| to be proud of." I' It was a dazzling Gladys that met Joy’s eyes. Dressed in the latest style, no longer a hint of sadness in her eyes, she pounced on Joy for news of Hop. “I got a contract, with this show I’m with now,” Gladys said. “It’s up in June. Then Hop and I are going to get married and I’m going to get him a job here in some hotel. Sure 111 go on dancing. That’s all I’m good for. And I ain’t never going to give it up again, even if I do know that I ain’t any Pa\lowa.” Joyce shook her head to Giady’s offer of an introduction ’to various showmen. “Come on. Try it, Joy. Maybe you dance much, but you got an elegant figure, and you're just as pretty as you ever was. Prettier, with that sort of sad look in your eyes." “No,” Joyce said. “I’m going to stay here a while and get my father and mother settled, then I'm going back to Cleveland.” "Deke or Davey?” Gladys asked. Joyce laughed. “You won’t be. lieve me if T say it’s neither,” she said. “So I’ll just tell you that it isn’t Davey.” “Golly, then you're going to marry money, too." “I don't know," Joyce answered. “Deke may be poor, too, poorer than Davey. Davey’s doing well. He's bought a house and some day I think Davey will be a pretty rich man.” “Well, T always liked Deke best," said Gladys, flicking ash from her cigaret. ‘ But you should worry, yoti got lots of time, plenty of money, good looks, and a real rep, if what the papers say is true.” Joyce realized how far apart, were their schemes of thinking. To Gladys such publicity was an asset. To Joyce it meant the probable loss of the man she loved. The spent the afternoon shopping, istrolling down Fifth Ave., now beginning to blossom with springtime fashions, and parted at 6 o’clock for Joyce to go to meet her father and mother. They were sitting in the lofchy of the hotel and they greeted Joyce affectionately. It they had talked long of Joy’s affai-s, for though they could not help showing their own reunion, their gaze when it rested on her grew thoughtful, almost sad. After dinner they went back to their room, taking Joyce with them. “Your mother and I’ve been talking about what’s best to be done, Joyce,” Mr. Daring began. “We feel that we owe our first duty to you. You’ve had a hard time, and a narrow escape from disaster from not having a home to give you shelter. Now we want to make that home for you. And v/e’ll make it wherever you say." “Do you think you could do as well in Cleveland with your new business as you are doing Joyce asked. “I don’t rightly know," he answered. “In Cleveland I got used to thinking of myself as a failure, as a predestined factory, hand. Here I feel like anew man, a man with a chance."
Stomach Caused Awful Suffering Was Bloated, Nervous, Sleepless and Dizzy. Entirely Well Now. Anyone .who is suffering from the pangs of indigestion and stomach trouble will be interested in a letter written by Alex Black, Gaston, Ind., telling how he quickly regained his health. Mr. Black writes: “I suffered with a breakdown five years ago. It just seemed as if everything was the matter with me. j I had blood pressure, a bad stomach, constipation, and I was so nervous I would just shake. I could not sleep at night. My nerves just jumped. My stomach would bloat and cramp and the gas would press back my heart till I thought maybe I had organic heart trouble. My bowels would hardly move even with a laxative, and never without one I had dizzy spells and would stagger and almost fall. I did not have any appetite, and what I did eat wouldn’t stay down. I tried different medicines, but oniy got a little relief. Then hearing from friends about Viuna, I started taking it. Right from the first it helped me, and now I feel fine, as good as I ever did in my life. I eat anything and everything, have a good appetite, my bowels are in good shape, my nervousness is practically gone. I am a man 70 years of age, and if Viuna helps every one like it has me, it sure is wonderful.” Viuna acta promptly on sluggish bowels, lazy liver and weak kidneys. It purifies the blood, clears the skin, restores appetite and digestion, and brings new strength and energy to the whole body. Take a bottle on trial. Then if you re not glad you tried Viuna, your money will be refunded. $1 at druggists, or mailed postpaid by Iceland Medicine Cos., Indianapolis, Ind. VIUNA The Wonder Medicine
“I must go back to Cleveland in time,” Joyce said. “When some of the talk lias died down and I don't need to feel so ashamed all the time I must go back to work with Judge Perkins and Mrs. Deacon,” her voice broke a little at the name, "and Mrs. Deacon," she went on more firmly, “to build the orphan asylum Mrs. Maltby planned before she died. But New York is not so far away. One night and I’m home with you. Why not stay here and let me live at a hotel when I go back to Cleveland? Mother can go with me sometimes and there will always be people I can go about with." “Yout father thinks that a house some place on a railroad where he would get back and forth quickly, but not right in New York City would be best,” Mi's. Daring said. “Judge Perkins suggested that we go to live someplace near New York,” Joyce said to her mother.

“I want very much to do something for you. Please iet pie." “We’ll take none of your money,” said John Daring firmly. “Let me buy a house for all three of us. Let me invest some money for Mother so she need never have to lack the little things she loves again. And iet me live there happily with you.” Joy’s tone pleaded with her parents. “It's for me as well as you," she urged. Agnes Daring joined in Joy's pleading. Finally it was settled that they should go in the morning to buy a homo where the three of them might find peace. To Be Continued) Copyright, 1927, Famous Features Syndicate, Inc.
