HEALTH BOARD IN WARNING AGAINST BOTTLINGCUOT Use of Hydrogen Peroxide in Chocolate Drinks Is Barred. The State board of health has begun a strenuous campaign against bottlers of carbonated beverages over the State who are using hydrogen peroxide as a preservative for carbonated chocolate drinks, according to Dr. I. L. Miller, food and drug commissioner, today. In a letter sent out to bottlers, Dr. Miller said: “Chocolate-flavored carbonated beverages, usually containing skimmilk solids, have gained rather wide distribution within the last two years. The preservation of these beverages has caused the bottler considerable trouble. Cites the Law “To overcome these difficulties, several bottlers supply companies are distributing solutions generally designated by numbers or coined names, to be added to the beverage at the time of bottling. Every such solution so far examined has been found to be hydrogen peroxide.” Dr. Miller then called attention to Section 2 of the food and drug law, which reads as follows: “For the purpose of this act an article shall be deemed as adulterated Ts it contains any added anti septic or preservative substance, except common table salt, saltpeter, cane sugar or other harmless preservative whose use "is authorized by the State board of health.” The commissioner said that th 6 health boardas not and will not There IS Relief! No longer any reason to “put off’relieving pain! For you needn't resort to habitforming drugs. Just take a Ne-Ake tablet. There’s no harm whateverin stopping pain with this remarkable discovery. And lit DOES stop pain—as surely and swifty ’ as things ten times its strength! Do you ever have nervous headaches? Take No-Ake, and give it ten minutes! Same with an aching tooth or jaw—or the pangs of neuralgia and even neuritis. No matter where the pain, No-Ake is ready to soothe it away. Perfectly harmless and any druggist is glad to supply you with this marvelous,’merciful palliative.

"You Need a Diuretic " To Be Well There Must Be Proper Kidney Function. \
THE part played by the kidneys and their importance to bodily health should be clearly understood. The kidneys are the blood filters. If their action becomes sluggish, they do not thoroughly cleanse the blood of poisonous wastes. Such impurities may make one dull, tired.and achy with often a toxic backache, drowsy headaches and dizziness. A common symptom of imperfest function is .scanty or painful excretions. Doan’s Pills, stimulant diuretic, aid the kidneys in their eliminative work. 50,000 users have publicly recommended Doan’s. Ask your neghbor!
Mrs. C. A. Curry, Graduate Nurse, 802 Maple St., Zeigler, 111., says: “I have recommended Doan’s Pills for twenty years and the results have justified my faith. I was bothered with backache, headache and dizziness and attributed it to my kidneys as their action was sluggish. Doan’s Pills soon relieved me and I am glad to endorse them.”

authorize use of hydrogen peroxide as a preservative. Up to the present time there have been no arrests, he said, but the board has warned all bottlers that continuation of the practice will result in drastic measures being taken. Dr. Miller quoted from an article in the Bottlers’ Gazette,” a trade paper devoted to the interests of beverage manufacturers, as follows: "As there is evidence that hyrdogen peroxide has irritant and deleterious effects on the digestive tract, it is not regarded as a proper ingredient of any food when ready for consumption and is therefore classed as an adulterant when present in food.” Pasteurize Solids The commissioner also explained that, although the amount of drug used may be relatively small in a single bottle of chocolate beverage, yet the psychological effect upon consumers, when they learn that the concoction they have been drinking has been doped or artificially preserved will do much more harm to the bottlers than the slight saving in production cost effected by the use of peroxide. By pasteurizing the milk solids in chocolate beverages they can be preserved without the use of antiseptics, MHftr declared, and in this way the articles can be made a highly nutritious food drink.
