NORTH SIDE PARK PROJECT WINNING STRONGAPPROVAL A. W. Brayton Joins City Plan Commission in Indorsing Purchase. Acquisition of a triangular tract between White Kiver and the canal and Boulevard PI. and Delaware St. for park purposes, aa recommended by the city plan commission in a resolution to the park board Thursday, was indorsed today by A. W. Brayton, park board landscape architect. North side residents urged the development of the site, pointing out no park facilities are available for the district. The plan body acted on the plea of north side civic clubs, said Gustav G. Schmidt, president. Subdividing Disapproved Dr. H. H. Wheeler, who petitioned to subdivide the 190 acres into small lots, agreed to sell the site at appraised value, according to J. Ray Monaghan, plan engineer. The value is estimated at $300,000J The plan body approved of the project for the reasons: That subdivision into small lots would be out of harmony with expensive surrounding property; that a serious sanitation problem would be brought about as result of the low lands along the river; that the building up of the district would necessitate an elaborate flood prevention program; and that development of the territory would present the problem of stream pollution incident to closely built up territory. Want Meridian Widened Schmidt was re-elected president of the plan commission at its annual meeting. Others renamed: J. W. Atherton, vice president; Mackelin Mack, secretary, and J. Ray Monaghan, engineer. The plan body also recommended to the park board that Meridian St. be widened and resurfaced between Fall Creek and Thirty-Eighth St., in conformance with thd thoroughfare plan. The plan body desires resurfacing and widening at the same time. There isa strong desire to resurface the street. The park board recently rescinded action on the resurfacing because the law provides the street could not be resurfaced unless also widened. The plan body proposed to widen Meridian St. from 70 to 80 feet with a 60-foot roadway.
