by splinters, is falling. He never may be able to read again. Buchanan was on the Somme when the Germans broke through Beilleul in 1918, and was one of those who was pushed north to stem the advance. Their machine gun post was spotted by German airplanes and shells fell thickly. One was a direct hit, and Buchanan was the only one of nine to escape death. He was brought out unconscious and three operations had been performed on him at Sidcup Hospital, London, before he realized where he was. Same Doctor Remains After he was landed in Sydney from a hospital ship in 1918, he was sent to Adelaide so that he could be under the constant care of Dr. Newlands, who had treated him in London, and who had returned. For two years he was a patient at Keswick Military Hospital, Adelaide, Though Buchanan has been given anew face, the specialists have not been able to restore his health and strength. The war, nearly ten years over, will always be a live picture for him. It is not unusual for Buchanan to fall in a faint. The Repatriation Department pays him a special pension. Before he enlisted he was a railway worker. Starting Right FT. MORGAN, Colo., April 22. When a young couple had b|gn married by A. V. Saunders, justice of the peace, the groom asked the charges. ‘•The law allows me $2.50 for a wedding ceremony,” said the judge. “Here's four bits,” said the groom, flipping over a half dollar. “That’ll make you $3.” The astonished judge accepted the coin and the couple walked out.
