ALL NOT FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR
Just as Dumdum Bullets Are Outlawed in Battle Between . Nations, So Should ‘Vamping’ in tlw~ * Affairs of Hearts. By Martha Lee “All’s fair in love and war?’’ Indeed no. Dumdum bullets, the wlilful murder of women and children—even in the horrible annals of warfare, these things have been pronounced “unfair.”
In the battle for another’s affections; in tho striving to make appeal and impression, many a weapon may be resorted to that is quite as unfair, even as cruel as dumdum bullets on the battle field. Mild cheats are the men and women, in the warfare of love, who pretend to have tastes and inclinations as far removed from their real selves as the North from the South Pole. But there is nothing mild about the woman or her weapons, who tramples others’ rights under foot, who uses every “Vamp” trick and move to get the man of her choice. There is nothing less than cold brutality in the warfare methods of the man who for instance, knowing that he could not get a girl’s heart if she knew his marital obligations, pretends to consider marriage with her and cultivates and builds tho love in her heart - that will cause supreme agony later. All is NOT fair in love and war. Her Sister ‘Vamps’ Dear .Martha Lee: What would you sa.v bout a woman who knows absolutely Vhat the man she is trying to make love ”hrr is not only married but has a family of little children. Also, that the man's '•'ire is deeply in love with him and is sure • > break her heart If this woman—who kannens to be nty sister, succeedst We have almost knock-down quarrels rn-cr this. She sa.vs he is the onlv man ‘i lias fvt- met that she was attracted to end justifies her actions by saving that •is wile is not. iiis tfilial and does not deewe him. Personally. I think this is t ri'ble in my sister. What do you think? MISS M S SISTER. I think as you-'do and 1 hope you can succeed in making your sister see tilts. The wife is at a disadvantage because with a family of small children she probably has little t’me or thought to give to her own a: moarance or clothes. A woman who would coldly and deMieratcly set out to do this thing—well, 1 believe i.liq hits the world beaten for cruelty. She’s Broken Engagement near Manila Lee: I am a freshman in college. 1 have been going with a u.rl Who is a senior in high school. We were once engaged to be married, but about two months ago a senior in her high school began paying her attentions and now she has practically broken our engagement. They see each other every day at school and have gone out some together. I harp talked to the fellow, but ho says that so long as tho girl permits it. he s"os

notiiing wrong in his actions. She still says she ioves me. but docs not want to bo engaged. Is the other fellow right, or am I justified in doing anything I can to break them apart': L. M. You are not justified in “doing anything” to break them up. I think the young man is right, hard as it is upon you. The girl in the case would be the one to decide whom she prefers. Love cannot forcibly be held. Be as patient as you can. She may again veer—in your direction. Worried About Him Dear Martha Lee: I have been going with a boy who says that he loves me and T know J do him, but lately he has got acquainted with a clri who is trying to come between us. She la not a good girl and leaving myself out of it. I hate to see him in her company, which is not good tor him. What can I do? FRANCES J. Don’t be afraid. Even if she tries ever so hard, her influence is quite likely to be very temporary. Her fascination, if its foundation is not good, will not stand. Make him know that you trust him and his love for you. That will help wonderfully. Not Allowed Dates Dear Martha Lee: I am 10 and am not allowed to have dates. Don't you think that I should, if the boy has a good reputation and we go places that are respectable: SWEET SIXTEEN. if you are not allowed to have dates, that would mean that you would have to deceive and possibly deliberately lie to bring them about. You also would have to meet the young man away from home. All of this is just what a sweet s’oung girl ought not do. Wait awhile, dear. It will be a thousand tiir.es wiser. frequent oiling Vacuum cleaners, dishwashers and other electrical equipment should be oi'.ed carefully, wtih high grade lubricant. or 'e a month. A repairer of household equipment diagnoses three-fourths of needed repairs as due to lack of oil or poor oil used. STRAIGHT CORDS Connection cords for irons, toasters and so on should not be allowed to kink or get twisted. Many fuses are blown by twisted . cords being jerked out of the sockets too suddenly.

CHILDREN'S DISHES If your children have listless appetites in spring, why not buy anew plate, cup and saucer* for them? Sometimes an individual colorful milk pitcher may encourage a child i to drink his much-needed, ration. HEDDA HOYT SAYS ~
/- By Hedda Hoyt (United Press Fashion Editor) NEW YORK. April s.—Fur trimming will not be used as extensively upon coats this spring as it was last year and many of the smartest coats are entirely without fur. Collarless coats are included in most of the smart collections thus eliminating any sort of fur trimming. Owing to straight skirt lines, fur is* not being used as coat borders. Coat models using fur trimming are very certain to use just certain types of fur. Among the long-haired trimmings fox. wolf and lynx are of most importance since they are used only on higher grade models. Extremely short-haired furs include ermine, clipped krimmer and calf. Os course, there are many inexpensive coats which are trimmed in variously treated clipped rabbit furs but these are already becoming a drug on the market. Ombre lapln, for ! instance, one of the newer of the j cheap furs, is doomed before it lias i a start at popularity. COLORED SHOES To grace milady's pace this spring come dozens of colored shoe models. Beige, rose and g -ay form the vanguard of color. But for afternoon and evening each gown can be matched in slippers in satins, kid and even linen. VALUABLE FISH Fish should be included in all spring diets because of its iodine content, which tends to prevent goiter. % I’m Most Grateful Every Month Here is glorious news for long-suf-fering womankind; To every womon who periodically has suffered pain. Menstruation need no longer be painful. And it is Science that is i speaking! Specialists have developed a tiny ! tablet called midol. It’s a simple thing, utterly harmless to a girl of fourteen, but brings relief in five to , seven minutes. And is effective j twelve hours or longer! Midol is NOT a narcotic. It has ; no effect whatever on heart or nerv-! ous system. It acts directly on those | organs affected by menstruation. They function normally, as they j should, but the pain is banished. Complete relief —yes, perfect com- j fort—follows midol. Your druggist has midol for KO j cents, in a slim aluminum box to I tuck in your purse. HxAoV | Takes Pain Off the Calendar
