BUSINESS SNOWS 4 PER CENT GAIN IN STATESURVEY f. U. Research Director Re* \ ports on February Volume Increases. Mv Times Sveclal BLOOMINGTON, Ind., April I. Business in Indiana during February, as evidenced by reports of eighteen leading lines, was 4 per cent above that of tl e same month a year ago, according to a report on statewide conditions prepared by Prof. Lionel D. Edie, director of the Indiana University Bureau of Business Research. Total volume of business for February also showed a gain of 3 per cent over the preceding month, according to the report which says that while business conditions throughout the State are not all that might be desired, the favorable factors at this time outweigh the unfavorable items in the business structure. Where Gains Were Made According to Prof. Edie increases of more than 10 per cent as compared with February, 1926, were made in bank debits, coal production, electricity production, chain store sales, freight car loadings, and retail hardware stores. Smaller gains were recorded by post office receipts, chain drug store sales, value of building contracts

State Ranks High In spite of the fact that several important lines of industry during February showed declines from the level of a year ago, business throughout the State continues at high levels and Indiana is ranked by leading authorities as one of the best business States in the country at the present time, Edie said.
