ip EXPENSE ■l LISTED IN ■RAILWAY REPORT ■310.525 Is Operating Cost ■ Jump Shown in Car ComI pany Statement. While operating costs of the In--1 dianapolis Street Railway Company increased $310,525 during 1926, the official report of the company, filed with the Indiana public service commission, does not set out what portion of this sum was used for IstriKe-brealdng in July, 1926. I The balance sheet shows an inprease of $569,833 in road and equipment over the previous year, bringing the inventory figure of that classification to $24,074,449. Surplus Raised The total corporate surplus of the company is $1,621,416, which was , raised by $307,984.54 during the I year. Taxes paid by the company ■ amounted to $290,444, $91,681 less I than in 1925. ’ The operating of the company to which account the expense of the 1926 strike must be charged is not explicit in showing the particular amount used by the company when it refused to pay striking employes an increase in wages, but- gave street car men a bonus of $2 a day during the walk-out. Jump in Expense Although “passenger conductors, motormen and trainmen, drew $20,031 less than they had in 1925, miscellaneous car service expense went up $22,633 while “other transportation expense including busses,” went up $325,995. Seven Killed Seven persons were reported killed during the year. One was a passenger, two employes and four other persons. A total of 618 persons was injured.
