RHAT LIES BACK f OF CHINA TROUBLE (Continued From Page 1) continued to be recognized by the foreign powers. Although under Sun China had been given a constitution, all semblance of constitutionalltygwas thrown to the winds by Yuan and his successors. The presidency was bought and sold, or won by intrigue and bribery or became the prize in annual wars fought between the selfappointed war fords of the northern provinces. But no matter who 4 became president, or how he got in, l(he United States, along with the other great powers, continued promptly to extend recognition and credit in the shape of loans. The nationalist movement of Sun Yat-Sen which constantly gained momentum under his guidance, was either ignored or completely scorned. ' The British, who saw in Sun’s program a menace to her trade supremacy in the Far East, and especially to Hongkong, conducted an anti-Sun propaganda campaign through their subsidized news agencies the like of has seldom been seen. the United States followed Britain's anti-Sun lead, forgetful of fact that, up to that time, we Had played a lone hand in China Kgainst the exploiting powers, our be■ng a policy thoroughly and naturally in accord with the Nationalists’ ■ispirations. I There is nothing Bed or Bolshevistic about Sun’s ideas unless, in[deed, the ideas upon which the 'united States was founded, are Bolshevistic. And if Russians are active the Nationalists today—and ■they are —it is because Sun first liame to us, and to the British, the wrench and the Japanese for help B.nd we all refused. The Russians ■ffered help and help was accepted Horn the place where help was to be Hid. H China, however, will not turn H-mmunist as a result —that is, not Ljiless we and the other powers are Hupid enough deliberately to drive Htr into Moscow’s arms. Even then ■ hina would not stay. W Bun died two years ago, but his spirit today is marching on Peking. ALWAYS DEAD TIRED? How sad! Sallow complexion, coated tongue, poor appetite, bad breath, pirn- i ply skill and always tired. What's j wrong? You are poisoned. The bowels arc clogged and liver inactive. Take I this famous prescription used constantly in place of calomel by men anil women for 20 years—Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets. They are harmless yet very effective. A compound of vegetable ingredients and olive oil. They act easily upon the bowels, free the system of poison caused by faulty elimination and lone tip liver. Be beautiful. Have rosy cheeks, clear eyes and youthful energy that make a tureens of life. Take Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets, nightly. Know them by their olive color. 15c, 30c and OJe.—Advertisement.

meree of the United States, with headquarters at Washington, D. C. Thorpe's successful editorial policy has been based on the theory that there is plenty of romance in bustnness and that business subjects can be handled in an entertaining and readable manner without sacrificing any of the subject matter. It was inevitable from the start that it would. The Chinese number a quarter of the population of the globe. Most of them are backward —so because of its rulers, foreign and domestic. 80, in their struggle to take their place in civilization they will probably make many mistakes. And it will take years, even decades, to get very far. But they will win in the end. All the battleships and machine guns in Christendom can’t stop them for long. International recognition of the nationalist movement about the time Bun Y’at-Sen was inaugurated President back in 1921 alfnost surely would have prevented this war and all tlie tragedies inevitable to it.

For doctors at the hospital clinic are recommending a simple home treatment that brings quick, sure relief —often in a few hours. A severe cold had kept Mr. Pierce from business for several days. When nothing seemed to help him he called the clinic for advice. Doctors there recommended Cherry Pectoral —a highly concentrated mixture of wild cherry, terpin hydrate, and other hospital-tested ingredients. Next day he felt lots better and by night the cold was gone.
