PARK BOARD NEW ENTRY IN BRIDGE REPAIR SQUABBLE Council and Board of Works to Debate Mayor’s Proposal Today. A meeting of tho city council .epceinl bridge committee and the board of workw Yvas to be held this afternoon to discuss tiie proposal that the park board take over tho repair of College Ave. bridge, according to Boynton J. Moore, chairman of the committee. Mayor Duvall announced Saturday, after a conference with t lie park boiu-d and Corporation Counsel Schuyler A. Haas, that the bridge would be repaired under direction of the park board. This was based on the claim that the bridge was the connecting link bc-tYveen boulevards-. Haas said. Moore declared today lift yyos dissatisfied with this proposal. “I think that the proposal Is Illegal,” he declared. “The bridge does not connect two boulevards, but is merely a part of College Ave. Let the park board go ahead and repali the bridge if It wants to. but It will find Itself in one big mess.” Moore declared this Yvas a move on the part of the works board to save the gasoline tax money for street repair. The council committee declared some time ago that it would recommend tho > gasoline money be used for the bridge repair. City Engineer Chester C. Oberleas declared that If the gasoline taxfund was used for this work street repair work would have to stop April 1, for lack of funds. A special meeting of the park board Yvil lbe held Wednesday, according to John E. Milnor, president, to adopt a resolution taking over the bridge repair and making plans for letting tho contract for the work immediately. The bridge, which has sunk approximately three feet in a week, was placed under a guard of workmen from the board of works Sunday and all persons were kept at a safe distance. If the bridge withstands the flood caused by heavy rains of tho last few days it will stand for months, Oberleas said. TEN BREAK-INS DURING WEEK-END Burglaries Ransack Stores, but Get Small Loot.
