HUNTERS, FISHERS RULED BY NEW GAME LAWS Fines for Violators Not Less Than $10 —Bag, Catch Limits, License Fees Established.
Explanation of the new game laws passed by the present session of the Indiana legislature, is given by George N. Mannfeld, superintendent of the fish and game division of the Department of Conservation. “The law makes State statutes conform to Federal regulation relative to migratory birds, excepting the bag limit on ducks will be fifteen and on geese six,” Mannfeld said. “The law requires persons who fish in the Ohio River, Wabash River and Lake Michigan to keep their fishing tackle within one mile of these waters; also requiring private pond owners to have a written permit to keep a seine or trap for use in their ponds; said devices to be kept on the premises where pond is located. “It will be lawful to take suckers, carp, dogfish and gar with a pitchfork without barbs, and young of REPAID BY A RAPID IMPROVEMENT F. these species may be taken for bait with a minnow seine or minnow trap. “It is unlawful to barter, exchange, sell or offer for sale, or purchase any native fish of any kind protected either by a size or bag limit. The term sale includes serving the same as part of a meal. Boarding houses, restaurants and hotels may prepare and serve fish caught by guests or boarders to .them and their families. License Price Range “The price of the resident license is sl, but includes hunting, fishing and trapping. All such licenses expire Dec. 31 of each year, instead of a year from date of issue. Nonresident fishing license is raised to $2.25 and expires Dec. 31. The nonresident hunters’ license costs $15.50 and carries the privilege tpf hunting, fishing and trapping, and expires Dec. 31. “Persons may fish in their own counties without license, and children under eighteen will be required to have a license to fish, whether they reside in the State or not. The section allowing the wives of men who have a license ,to fish free has been repealed. Residents of the State for six months or more, who own land, but do not live on them, may hunt, fish or trap on their own land without a license. “It is unlawful for any person to fish with net, seine or trap in the Wabash River where it forms the boundary line of Indiana and Illinois, without a license, which must be secured at the office of the su-

perintendent of fisheries and game in the State house. For residents, the license will cost $lO for each 100 yards or less of seine, gill net or trammel net; and $5 for each trap, hoop-net or other kind of net. The devices will be tagged. Non-resi-dents are charged S4O for seines or nets and S2O for a trap, hoop-net or other kind of net. “The closed season on smallmouth black bass, large-mouth black bass, yellow perch, pickerel or pike, silver bass, rock bass, crappie, pikeperch (wall-eye) and red-eared sunfish is from May 1 to June 16, inclusive. "It is unlawful for any person to take or catch more than twenty-five blue-gills, crappie, rock bass or redeared sunflsh. The aggregate of black bass or silver bass will be six a day with not more than twelve of all kinds in possession in two or more days’ fishing. The limit will be six pike-perch or wall-eye. Two days’ catch may be possessed in two or more days’ fishing. “The length limit on the two black basses will be eleven inches; on silver bass, ten Inches; pike or pickerel fifteen inches; crappies six inches; yellow perch seven inches; rock bass, blue-gill or red-eared sunflsh five inches. “The open season on rabbits Is from Oct. 1 to Jan. 11; on squirrels Aug. 1 to Nov. 1. The bag limit on rabbits will be ten a day; on squirrels five a day. Protection to red squirrels (pineys) Is withdrawr. The sale of rabbits will be prohibited lrr closed season and entirely prohibited on squirrels at any time except for breeding purposes. Bu United Press TOKIO, March 18.—The largest image of Buddha in existence is to be unveiled in May at Ueno village, on the bay forming the entrance to the port of Nagoya. The image, which Is made of reinforced concrete, is seventy-two feet high, with a base of fifty-two feet. In the forehead of this collosus are to be placed a cluster' l of electric lights with a total of 10,000 candle power. A Paris jury has decided it is not in spite of expert declarations to the contrary. The jury was called on to judge the guilt or innocence of Dr. Philippe Martinie, accused of practicing medicine illegally because his assistant in the application of a method to cure timidity, Jean B. Detriteaux, was not a qualified practitioner. The method of Dr. Martinie, who Is a specialist in nervous diseases, consists in having the patient, when he goes to bed in complete darkness,

repeat until he falls asleep one of eight formulas printed on luminous plaques. The first night he sees the formula: “I am calm.” He continues to repeat this until his eyes close.
