State gravel and stone roads In Indiana are rapidly responding to maintenance and today show decided Improvement over conditions a few days ago, according to John D. Williams, director. Southern roads as a rule are free from frost and rapidly being worked into shape to handle normal traffic. Some roads in central, north, east and west Indiana are soft and hard as weather conditions change. Removal of a bridge runaround on No. 15 north of Warsaw, and three-mile detour north of Lebanon on No. 39, by opening of anew bridge, was announced. No. 29 (Madison. Versailles, Greensburg, Shelbyville, Indianapolis, Kirillin, Logansport. La Porte, junction of 20 near Michigan City)—Badly broken between Star City and Winamae —light traffic only. Bridge run-around at two miles south of Kirklin. Rough and soft just north of Osgood and for two miles north of Madison. No. 31 (Louisville. Seymour. Columbus. Indianapolis, Peru. Plymouth, South Bend, Michigan line)—Detour between Columbus and Edinburg is rough. Temporary runaround for bridge construction at eleven miles north of Kokomo. *l. 37 (Tell City. English. Paoli. BedBloomington, Martinsville, Indianapo—lTemporary bridge at Glenns Valley, old bridge at four miles north of mine-ton. S. No. 40 (Illinois line. Terre Haute, Brazil, Indianapolis. Richmond, Ohio line) bridge at two miles east of Richmond, and at one mile east of CambSdge City. Approaches to Putnamville oVerhead are soft. .. _ U. S. Building twelve bridges between Marion County line and Morristown; local detours only. . . _ No. 67 (Vincennes, Bicknell. ton. Spencer. Mooresville, Indianapolis. Fortville, Anderson, Muncie, Portland—not maintained to Ohio line. Subject to inundation at many points between Spencer and Paragon. U. S. No. 150 (Junction of 50 near Shoals, Paoli. New Albany)—Construction gangs between Chambersburg and Palmyra make cautious driving necessary. BAKERY BUSINESS GOOD ; U. S. Report Shows 494 Bakeries in Indiana During 19£6. There were 494 establishments engaged in the manufacture of bread and other bakery products in Indiana during 1926, according to a U. S. Department of Commerce report issued today. These products were valued at $30,223,581. The State ranked tenth in this field, the report says. The department announced that according to data collected at tile biennial census of manufacturers the commercial bakeries reported an increase of 12.9 pier cent as compared with that of 1923, the last preceding census year.

WOMAN ROUTS BANDIT Theater Cashier Merely Calls Her Husband. £l/ United Press KOKOMO, Ind., Feb. 25.—Somewhere in Kokomo a bandit is realizing the futility of arguing with a woman. s The bandit, who left no card, stepped up to the box office of the Paramount Theater here Wednesday night and demanded all available cash, punctuating his remarks with flouring a revolver. But Mrs. Louis Higgins, custodian of the ticket window, was not impressed. She firmly refused to do business on such terms and called her husband, who ran the bad bandit'away. .
