THE SEQUEL TO SONIA

BEGIN HEBE TODAY SONIA, the young- wife of Dr. Don StiUwater. became jealous of her husband when she inadvertently learns that he formerly was engaged to — ELAINE WALLACE, stylish wife of Stillwi‘4:'s partner. DB. ROBERT WALThr’ough ESTHER LANE, stenographer in the office. Sonia also learns that Dr. Wallace is somewhat of a flirt, and attracts many of his women patients. Sonia fears the Wallaces may have heard about her affair- with FRANKLIN CRANE, before she was married. Sonia receives a letter from Franklin Crane, saying he is coming to San Fran--01 Sonia fears Don’s love for her is waning and decides to leave home to live with Jinny of Jed Thomas’ office. Sonia refuses any financial assistance lrom D °Jinny tells Sonia she is in love with a married man, who proves to be Dr. W allaoe A young salesman. STEPHEN SESSENGER, m the office of Jed Thomas, is iD Don te is 'ied^to 3 believe that Sonia is accepting attention from Wallace and in an angry mood calls on her and accuses her. As long as Don thinks she is a flirt, she decides to play that kind of a S Sonia dines and dances with Stephen She was thinking of the pleasant evening spent with him when he suddenly .caught her violently in his arms. Soma Then talks matters over with him and refuses to have any more engagements with him. She tells him she lov§s her husband. ... Sonia tries to straighten things oui with Don. but he refuses to listen to her so she calls on Bob Wallace. Elaine appears on the sceue. and to save Sonia Bod tells her about Jinny. Elaine meets Jinny, who tells her there was nothing to their relations. They were merely flirting. , _ Anna Marsh is seriously ill and Don rushes to her in time to save her hie. He tells Sonia that Bob has explained the situation to him and asks her forgiveness. Jinny marries Stephen Sessenger. Sonia realizing she needs Don tries to locate him. but finds it impossible. She walked alone up the hospital stairs. Time dragged until what seemed years she dropped through waves of agony into eternity. She was awakened by Don asking her if she cared to see her son. Sonia devoted all her time to her son. she felt he was so delicate a breath of wind might blqw him away. Some instinct seemed tb be warning her. Sonia was frantic when the baby has a slight temperature. She telephones Don. but he sends Bob Wallace. Sonia blames Don for the death of their son.. She feels that she has nothing left in life and refuses to mingle with old friends. NOW GO ON WITH THE STORY CHAPTER XLV CONTINUED In spite of her intense resentment Sonia felt tears rush to meet that smile. “I’m telling you because I want you to know that I am not unfamiliar with suffering. I, too, have been in the very depths of despair. For days I felt that I was against a stone wall. Too late to go back and I was not big enough then to see over it,” said Jean. “But suppose,” Sonia suggested, her voice hardening, “you had lost your little daughter?” t .“Then,” Jean answered firmly, “I would have taken up my life just the same. It isn’t what happens to us that matters, Mrs. Stillwater. It’s the way we meet our blows. Everybody has them. We must keep our heads up and do our share of work in the world even if our hearts are in ashes inside.”

SHARP CRAMPING PAIN IN STOMACH IS ENTIRELY GONE Another Indianapolis Man Says Konjola Restored ,Perfect Digestion , % for Him. MR. ARTHUR SCHAFFNER

ner, well-known Indianapolis citizen, living at 6432 College Ave., Broad Ripple, while talking recently with The Konjola Man at Hook’s drug store, Pennsylvania and Market Sts., this .city, where large crowds are calling daily to hear his personal explanation of this celebrated new medicine. “I always had sharp, cramping pains in my stomach every day,” continued Mr. Schaffner, "and I noticed lumps would form below my left ribs about the size of a gooseegg, and this trouble seemed to be a great puzzle to everyone. I couldn't hardly bear the touch of my clothing and it seemed like my food would lay for hours in a solid lump instead of digesting as it should. I would have dizzy, fainting spells, and this would sometimes occur three or four times a day. "There is no doubt that I was in serious condition, and I suffered so long and nothing ever did me a bit of good, so that I was about ready to give up hope when I found Konjola. This new medicine seemed to have effect almost at once, and since I have continued with it, I am free of the stomach trouble, and have perfect digestion in everyway. The lumps on my side have disappeared for the first time in months, and 1 can’t help but think this was due to stomach trouble. . I can eat anything I want, and never have cramps or pains of any kind. After a meal I hardly ever know I had eaten anything, and I seem to. have more energy every day. The’ dizzy spells do not come, and I sleep better. My appetite is increased. "I don’t liesitate to say that Konjola has ended the suffering I had for fourteen years, and it is the only medicine I would ever care to indorse. .1 make this statement because I know what Konjola will do for those who suffer, find would gladly verify my statement to anyone who asks, me.” - The Konjola Man is at Hook’s drug store, Pennsylvania and Mar’ket Sts., Indianapolis, where he is dally meetlhg the local public and Introducing and explaining the merits of this remedy. Konjola is for sale by every Hook drug store in thts section and by all druggists everywhere. —Advertisement. I

She added gently, “After the first shock Nature sends new hopes and joys to heal'us if we are ready for them.” But Sonia, shaken a moment before from her own dark lethargy, slipped wearily back again. “Oh, there’s no use discussing it. Talking doesn’t change anything. I’m sorry you have been unhappy and I’m sure you mean to be kind to me. ...” Jean rose. Her cheeks were dark red. “You don’t understand. It was not on your account at all. The reason I came was because of Dr. Stillwatdr.” “You came,” Sonia repeated slowly, “because of my husband? Why?” “Because he needs you. He has been so lonely. Can’t you see how unhappy he is?” Sonia rose, striving for control, but her voice was”"furious. “What does it concern you?” she demanded. “You are attempting to discuss things I wouldn’t. discuss with my own mother. What right, what possible right, have you to talk like this to me?” The other’s mouth set, defiantly. “I have the right of a woman who loves. I love Don Stillwater as I never did my husband. He is the most wonderful man I have ever known.” “And you’re warning me tc be nicq to him or I’ll lose him?” “Not at all,” Jean answered, quickly. “I am leaving Cleveland because I can’t bear to stay and be nothing to him. But if I did stay. . .” Her gray eyes filled with tears. “Aren’t you taking a good deal for granted, Mrs, Wetherby?” “No!” Jean faced her unafraid. Then came to Sonia with kaleidoscopic swiftness visions of her husband, galloping up the steps with Phyllis, making excuses to go next door. Phyllis wasn’t well or Jean needed his advice. She saw him standing on the back porch (Don was never formal —with Jean just inside laughing up at him. And he was looking at her. Had it been tenderly? Last night when he returned his face had been white. She looked up to meet Jean’s ey£s.

“Does he know you love him?” she heard herself asking, shakily. “I have not told him,” Jean replied. But he did know. In a sudden flash of perception Sonia’s reserve fell from her like a cloak.
