EXPECT SALARY DECISION SOON See Early Ruling on Pay Action of Legislators. A decision by the Indiana Supreme Court is momentarily expected concerning salary increases for members of the State Legislature, according to a number of Representatives. Rumors in the lobbies has it that •with the advancement on the docket of the case, which was taken on appeal from a decision in the Marions County Circuit Court, action might be had in a few days. Members of the Legislature voted themselves pay at the rate of $lO a day when the session convened. They contended that when the 1925 Legislature raised the pay, to become effective in 1929, it wiped out all standing legislation which gave the present membership the right to set salaries for this session. Attorney General Arthur L. Gilliom ruled otherwise, however, and the legislators have only been receiving $6 a day. Former Supreme Court Judge Louis B. Ewbank is handling the case for the lawmakers. Sonia was frantic when the baby has a slight temperature. She telephones .Hon, but sends Bob Wallace. Soma blames Don for the death of their son. She feels that she has nothing left in life fn NOW GO ON WITH THE STORY CHAPTER XLIII Anna wrote that she would stay with Vera's children if Sonia would like to have her sister visit her. Sonia recognized the suggestion as one of their unfailing kindnesses, and asked Vera to come.’ But she dreaded it. Vera was so absorbed in her family. Such a mother! She wouldn’t be in the house a moment before she would begin talking about her children. Sonia was surprised to discover that her sister understood better than either of the older women. Vera said, simply, "We go through so much to have our babies. It doesn’t seem fair that anything should happen to them. Little sister, I wish I could help you.” "No one can help me,” Sonia answered. "Oh, Vera, I didn t mind the pain or worry. I wanted to work for him. I would have scrubbed floors the rest of my life. . . . Why should he have been taken? Vera trembled with sympathy. "So many babies aren’t wanted. So many poor little things are left without fathers or mothers, or born into poverty or disgrace. . . . Why should it have been my child?” “My dear,” Vera sighed, “we can’t understand these things.” “I went to his dresser afterward,” continued Sonia, in a dry, hard voice. "There were all his clothes —little silk and wool shirts, socks and tiny crepe de chine boots . . .While he —the living, beautiful child . . Vera’s sob checked her. "Oh, Sonia, don’t!” “I can’t even cry,” Sonia said painfully. "I haven’t any more tears.” "But, darling, you’re so young. Some time you can have another one.” “Never so long os I live, 1 ’ declared Sonia, passionately. “Why should I have another one, so something else could happen to it?” Yet being with her sister helped more than she realized. There was something so sane about Vera. She would, say, “I’ll tell you what s let’s do today. Let’s walk out tp the beach and have our lunch.” Or, "I think we ought to go downtown and get mother anew pocketbook. She’s
Bouidn’t Bend, Back Ached So Kidneys Disturbed Him During the Night Trouble Gone Now Readers who are suffering from backache and kidney pains, know how wonderful it felt to Mr. A. M. Caudell, Fortville, Ind., to be rid of this agonizing trouble. Mr. Caudell writes: “Six weeks ago I got a severe aching in my back. It just seemed as if my back would break in two, and 1 could not stoop over without pain. I was nervous, and my kidneys disturbed me during the night, so I did not get much sleep. I would get up in the morning with a dull aching headache and feeling just as tired as when I went to bed. Nothing did me any good until I found Viuna, and right from the first I began to improve. The hurting in my back stopped and I went to bed and got a good night’s rest. My nervousness has gone and I can sit down to the table and eat a good hearty meal, ,J tell you Viuna is a wonder. I don’t have to get up at all at night any more and am feeling fine.” Viuna acts promptly on sluggish bowels, lazy liver and weak kidneys. It purifies the blood, clears the skin, restores appetite and digestion, and brings new strength and energy to the whole body. Take a bottle on trial. Then if you re not glad you tried Viuna, your money will be refunded. $1 at druggists, or mailed postpaid by Iceland Medicine Cos., Indianapolis, Ind, VIUNA The vegetable regulator

used that one you gave her for two years.” She had a way of making trivialities seem important* For moments at a time Sonia would be forced to consider Vera’s problems. "I have that old navy blue coat In the a.ttic? Why couldn't I cut that down for Martha Ann?” "I should think you could, Vera.” "It’s awful to be poor. I’m really ashamed to be seen with you. My clothes are so shabby.” Before she left Sonia persuaded her to accept anew hat as a token of her appreciation. Her sister was flushed and excited. She cried, "Now, tell me, dear, what do you think?” For the first time in months Sonia was forced to turn her interest outside. The morning she left, Vera said wistfully, "You’re lucky to have a husband who can give you everything you want. Paul, tries. He works like a dog. But there is so much expense with a family like ours. We never get ahead. It’s awfully discouraging.” Sonia thought she would have been willing to have endured any amount of financial worry. . As the days passed she achieved a frozen resignation. And she discovered she • was not alone in her suffering. There Were other mothers. ... She had been walking in Gordon Park and was resting on a bench in a secluded spot when suddenly It began to rain. At the same time a woman rounded the corner, crying. She was dressed in black. Her face was drawn and colorless. And she was no girl. Sonia thought she must have been 45. Tears were rolling down her cheeks, Sonia was going on, but she said, desperately, ".Don’t go, please!” Sonia was embarrassed and did not know what to do as the other mopepd her eyes with a crumpled handkerchief, and continued, “Do you mind staying with me for a little while? I’m so nervous.” To Sonia's reluctant, “I’m afraid I don’t understand,” she added, simply, "I buried my little girl this morning.” Sonia was touched to the depths of her heart. She put an arm about those tense shoulders and drew her back out of the rain. “She always came running in to me when it was raining. At the first patter I could hear those little feet scampering and her voice, ‘lt’s raining, mummy.’ It’s raining... .Oh, my God, it’s raining and she can’t come In to me.... Can never come to me ” With tears running unheeded down her cheeks, Sonia cried, "Oh, my dear, I understand. I lost my baby, too.” She was unutterably hurt, when the other repeated Vera's words, “But you’re young. You can have another one.” Sonia walked home thoughtfully. It was typical of her new selfishness that she was already thinking of the other mother’s distress as less accute than her own. . . But physically she was feeling better. The wind and rain made her draw deep breaths of moist air. She entered the living room with such unusual vivacity that Don looked up, pleased. “Your cheeks are like roses,” he said, impulsively. Both were embarrassed. Speech before a third person was not so difficult, but alone conversation had been avoided when possible.

Sonia answered something and retreated to her own room. Since the death of the baby she had continued to sleep in the sunroom. She had hoped Don would respect her desire for privacy, but that very night he braved her displeasure and entered. She pretended to be asleep until he stooped and kissed her. Then trembling with anger, she jumped from bed and pushed him from the door. For hours afterwards she could hear him pacing the floor. But she knew now that he understood, the incident would never be reapeated. (To Be Continued) SPEAKS ON BOLSHEVIKI "While the bolshevik! are seeking recognition of Russia in America, they are at the same time spreading propaganda in this country against our institutions and form of government,” declared Dr. Lewis A. Convis, Chicago, who discussed the Russian situation before the Y. M. C. A. Big Meeting at English’s Theater Sunday afternoon. Convis spoke on “Under the Paws of the Russian Bear.” Recognition of Russia would be disastrous to this country, he declared. The Axline Trio, composed of Miss Addie Axline, Miss Lois Axline and Miss Dorthy Fee, entertained. The Big Meeting orchestra gave a short program and the audience joined in mass singing. "My Old Kentucky Home” will be the subject of next Sunday’s address by the Rev. C. P. Gibbs. Butler University Band will provide the music.

EXTREMELY WEAK AND RUN-DOWN Head Would Feel Heavy And Things Would Look Black, Says Mississippi Lady. Built Up By Cardui. Mrs. C. C. Farragut, of Pass Christian. Miss., says that when weak and run-down she took Cardui which "surely did strengthen’’ her. “Three years ago, I was very weak and run-down. I was so tired I didn't feel like doing my work or looking after my baby. “When I would stoop over, my head would feel so heavy and everything looked black. I decided that it was weakness and that I needed a builder. “When I was just a girl, my mother gave me a bottle of Cardui and I remembered how much good it did me. so I sent for a bottle and began taking it again. “I knew after a few days it was helping me. for I ate more and enjoyed my food. I kept on and it surely did strengthen and build me up. I have taken one bottle since, just as a tonic.” For over 50 years Cardui has been helping women who suffered, or were weak and run down. Thousands have made similar statements to that above, telling of the benefit Cardui has been to them. Cardui is a mild, medicinal, purely vegetable tonic. It should help you, as it has helped others.
